that's exactly my point. It's not the same sound wise but the concept, dodgy vocals, cheesy riffs and to appeal to youngsters is exactly the same. Maybe it works on kids but to still call it trance takes away from those of us who remember being actually put into a trance by good music, subtle melodies and the like.

Well looking at the fact that there also are many people of my age who listened EDM from late 80's till now and still like todays trance too that last point for me at least isn't true.
Not that we like all of todays trance, but compared to the 90's I bet the % we like hasn't changed that much. I have loads and loads of crap trance tracks in my cd collection from the 90's. I guess people only remember the good ones and by that make a wrong comparison.

My theory is that house music drew somewhere in early 00's, the public's attention away from "trance" music. Probably because house snobs like Ishkur bribed house labels to put semi-naked girls in the music videos, before "trance" music got that idea.

Where did the "good trance" of today go to then? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but I haven't been listening to new trance for some time now.

I remember a time when every second track featured a sample of a voice saying EXTACY.

Not too often you hear a track with such samples these days.
