Do you perform live?

Yeah, I know this is a production forum, but I'm just curious to know if any of you guys perform live music? EDM, rock/pop, or otherwise? Were you a live performer or producer first - how did you get from one to the other?

How about the DJs? I admit, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the DJ culture, but do you guys play any live instruments in your sets (e.g., drum machine, synths, live effects) or feature live performers (e.g., singers)?

I used to do casual keyboard overlaying with a DJ friend of mine and I've done vocals, live, but those were ages ago. Doing keyboarding was a lot of fun, though, once I was warmed up and in a groove with it.

Yeah, started as a live performer, now mainly a producer and DJ. I used to do solo guitar and vocals myself, never really worked with a band except for one ill fated attempt.

These days I mainly DJ, but I'm looking to move my live sets back into a more live direction with more sampling and stuff.... Doubt whether I'll ever bother playing an instrument live though, it'd be more of a sample mashing concept and live arranging than a full on live show with instruments. Although if I found some other muso's who actually shared my sort of vision and were more instrested in the music than in virtuosity or whatever then I'd work with them.

I Dj'ed before I started producing.

Now I produce and I play bass guitar(blues/rock mainly).
Still DJ occasionally but I dont find it as much fun as I used to.

I started out playing keyboards in a pop/rock band about 20 years ago and we ended up with some pretty heavyweight backing (ex FGTH, ZTT) and played live in a few well known but smaller venues in London.

I can't say it was really my bag though, it seemed to be a days worth of gearing up and setting up for a flyby 40 minute performance.

I'm much happier twiddling my knobs in the studio.

I don't post here too often but I was a live performer for a long time before I even really got into electronic music. I have played and taught the drums for a very long time, playing in bands spanning quite a diverse range of genres, but these days I am a DJ more than anything and am dabbling and learning with edm production and am happiest doing this atm.

A great part of producing is that you can be any age. I know some say there is a preferance for younger producers, but in the end if you have the drive and knowhow any age is good.

Morgan Freeman didn't get his first break to he was 55 incidentally!

And still brilliantly watchable despite playing the same character in every film he's ever done ;)

you can start anything at any age. It isn't restricted to production. Your brain won't be as plastic and you won't learn nearly as quick as someone younger. I don't think Morgan Freeman is such a great example. He doesn't really act. He just plays himself or slight permutations of himself. That isn't acting.
