It's the only kind they carry... also the one I tried last year for the first time. I guess I have to try others! I do want to note, it HAS to be served COLD. I despised the bottom half of my tall boy. |
there is another deli store on yonge and king rd (just slightly south of the interersection). They may have a little bit more stuff.

My understanding was that Ryazhenka was like hours long boiled milk of some kind. |

Thanks Gera... that's not too far... but a lot to drive just for a smaller size.
There's a lot of types of Kafir I see...
....I'm going to ask someone. |

So I asked this Russian-looking customer next to me who was looking at some sourkraut type of stuff in tubs in the adjoining refrigerator.
I said "Priviet" using the same rolling R's we use in Czech... "I have never tried Kafir before, and I see different kinds... which one would you say I should try for the first time?"
In her broken English with a big grin, she goes "Dees ees de best von". She goes there are different types of Kafirs, and said I'd like that one.

So I take your proud Kefir to the counter.
This cute Russian girl overheard me in the back with the other lady. She goes "You never had Kefir??" in that accent that just brought her up a notch on the 1-10 scale.
I said, "No, but I am very international, and I seek pleasure in the exotic".
Instead of the effect I was hoping, she looked at me funny. Not at the snappy pickup line, but still mezmerized that I haven't tried Kefir.
FML. I felt that deep and silently she figured what a dumb Czech, no wonder it was easy rolling the tanks in back in '68.
FHL. If you look closely she has an oozing cold sore on her upper lip. |

Ok...Do I have everything I need to try this out proppa?
I looked through my cupboards and looked for some accompaniements that my slav cousins may like with it. So just in case I can't stomach it straight, I got;
Ribena (because all European kitchen cupboards have it)
Pure Vanilla extract
Sugar
Vodka (every Russian home has this on hand like I have bottled water, so yeah)
Have I left anything out? |
