Back in March, Windows went to the Winter Music Conference on a fact finding trip. We had an idea and needed a gut check. Besides getting us some much loved vitamin D, our trip to Miami convinced us that PCs running Windows have a place in the DJ community. Most DJs use Macs to mix their music. We want to change that. So today we’re kicking off a new partnership with four of the planet’s most creative DJs to show the world just what a PC running Windows 7 can do.
...
After talking with the artists, the next step was getting their hands on a really awesome PC. Fortunately, the folks at Dell were an enthusiastic and early supporter of our idea and supplied us with five, fully-loaded Dell XPS 16’s.
Together with the Dell PCs, we also shipped each DJ a Novation Launchpad controller, a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB audio interface, a Serato Rane SL3 DJ interface, the Ableton Live 8 software suite, a Crane laptop stand, a Flip Mino HD camera and, of course, a Windows-branded Mono DJ bag and T-shirt.
Over the next few months, we’ll report back on how each DJ in the program is doing, what they’re working on and hopefully turn you on to their stuff. Look for tracks, interviews and more here on the Windows Experience Blog.

umm ok?
I've been using WinXP/Vista/7 for the past 4 years on my laptop for gigs with no problem....with how good win7 is, only an idiot will claim that Macs are "better" for gigging with. |

98% of them wouldn't be caught dead using a PC. Hence why they got some no-name dorks to do this dumb campaign. |

Whats with the lame teenage-style peer pressure for people to be just like everyone else. Its pathetic.
Macs. I would never ever use that for DJ'ing. I got my DuraBook with XP Professional and never had a single problem in 3 years using it as a DJ. No errors or bugs or failures like Apple says on their predictable commercials.
Also, while I was at it - Serato. I had it before, and it was so ty than I decided to get Traktor Scratch. Best decision ever.
Mac doesnt support half of the programs/functions/settings that I use for my computers.

I tried it 4 years ago, and found it extremely confusing. Some of the programs were incompatible and/or froze or didnt work properly. There's very weak support system for software-based issues. Especially their terrible internet browser, whatever the name ... I had issues while working on my website. I like to have full control over all my files, which PC does, and Mac doesnt (Macs organize files via its own complicated system).
After a week, I had enough and returned it (with serious arguing involved) for my current desktop. Its funny, that the only times I have rare crashes or errors on my desktop computer is when an Apple software is involved, for example, iTunes for my iPod. So I made sure there is not a single piece of Apple software on my DuraBook laptop.
I like the classic Windows layout and I am used to it over the years, so I guess Apple is not my cup of tea. It has some good features, but the software/functions incompatibility is the biggest issue for me.
My initial response to this thread was quite bitter because there are a bunch of Mac elitists I know who like to diss Windows on every opportunity they can. |

So I have a question for those on Win:
I have a sound editor using Pro Tools 8, with a Mbox 2 Micro. In pro tools they can playback sounds though the mbox 2, no problem. But playing sounds from the any other program, does not go through the mbox. In the sound preferences, I have set the Mbox as the primary playback device, but no go. She has to physically switch from one jack to the other.
Anybody have any experience with this sort of thing? Our lead sound editor (on a Mac) can go through his dedicated hardware without switching, and states that on Windows you have to physically switch, but I don't believe that. There has to be a way! |

If people start dissing me, I respond appropriately, when necessary. But otherwise, believe me, I will be the last person who will start a thread saying how Macs are better than PCs, or vice versa.
But before everyone here jumps on a Mac bandwagon, I wanted to voice a different opinion. I.e. maybe Macs have certain advantages or vice versa, but DJ'ing on a PC is not a gay/retarded thing. |
