So when we say that they're closing down the labels, what does that mean for their back catalogues? Are they still going to be available on beatport or what??

I imagine I'd be pretty annoyed if I signed to a bonzai imprint and then it closed down and my track was no longer available. But I'm guessing this isn't whats going to happen?

So instead I assume that the label's previous releases will still be available, but they just won't sign any more..?

exactly, you got it. The stuff remains available, and whenever we can do something with some of it, we'll keep an eye on it, eventually work on it, and of course in that case, new exploitation will generate sales and obviously royalty shares due to the original artist. ^^

Hi Laurent,
Glad you like it, your music has been a big influence on me for years so your approval is the pinnacle of my music achievement!!!:D
And thanks very much for agreeing to do a Planisphere remix of 'Run'.

Hey I love your endsky tune on your myspace - great stuff!

Look for this to be out on Olympik + remixes soon. Have been getting things in order and doing a bit of revamping for my own label but will have a release schedule available soon. Endsky will be one of the first out along with a nice dubstep EP from phasedown.

Sounds all fine then I guess. I'm sure no one will find anything to complain about with that.

Just goes to show that trance is on the way out though. Platipus gone, now Bonzai getting out of trance... Thats two of the big labels gone already.

Also, is it true that bonzai got the rights for the platipus stuff? And will the back catalogue be made available? That would be awesome.
Lolo
I can't speak for platipus, the takeover is still in process.

what I know is that we're not entirely getting out of "trance". Just that we don't want what many call "mainstream trance" anymore, as much as I don't want to make those sounds myself. Alongside with platipus and many other partners, we're going another direction, it means no more or less than that. This process takes ages though, but now with this announcement, that means we're almost there.

Platipus has always been pure Trance to me, but many others filed under trance are simply crap dance music without vocals. We don't want to be categorized with this kind of sound.

Mainstream Trance dying? I don't think so. However, this is not what bonzai wants to stand for, and I'm sure it will leave more space for the mainstream Trance labels.

The label Deal with Platipus is signed. Just to be clear on the matter, we do a full management on the label but the A&R remains entirely in Simon's hands !!! The first backcatalogue releases will see the light on all portals early july under the new imprint called 'Porcupine'. More news on that and more the coming weeks.

As for all the Bonzai chitchat that's been going in I think Laurent already clarified a lot.
Lolo
thanks for making it clear.

Ah ok... That makes things a lot clearer indeed. It almost sounds like you guys are trying to get away from being pigeonholed in a genre at all, and are trying to get back to just signing good music, rather than signing trance music. I like the sounds of it a lot actually:)

Indeed. Although the whole thing has made me realise how much I need to learn about how labels/distribution works!

That is fantastic news :)

About Bonzai: Quality > Quantity, imo. Bonzai has a lot of good stuff, but also a ton of crap. Glad to see that you guys will start being a lot more selective and let the good stuff be more obvious :)
