If you go under the release page on Beatport, the release title is Progress of Soul - Mixed Edition.
Have asked Subtraxx details about this choice and they told me that this is the album concept (after listening to the album the choice becomes more understandable) and for the moment is not planned a release with all full tracks. Couple of tracks are still already out as single though and for the rest I guess we have to use our dj creativity. |

Yeah, but I assumed that referred to the "Continuous DJ Mix" file which is Album Only. It doesn't make much sense to sell the mix split into tracks and then throw in the en bloc MP3 as well.
EDIT: How exactly do the tracks segue together? Is it beat-mixed or are we talking ambient fades? |

this album is very atmospheric and complex, so it's hard to say in one word how it's mixed... mostly ambient fades, sometimes beat-mixes, it just smoothly flowsss :) |

Hmm. Hopefully there's room for DJing.
It sounds pretty special, based on the samples. Can't wait to hear the full thing. |

Hello folks, allow me to tell a little story about the mixed thing?
First of all it's not mixed as in traditionally DJ mixed.
When I begun to work on this record I wanted to make the whole thing into ONE track. Also, I wanted to make it absolutely impossible to know (even for myself) where the next track begins or the previous ends. The plan was that sounds and themes would be changing at different times. For example bassline would be playing riff from upcoming melody even ten minutes before other sounds would change into that theme. Every track would be melodically compatible with each other and all aspects of the tracks would be overlapping each other and it would be possible to increase or decrease intensity very smoothly. From marketing point of view this was terrible idea because there would be no singles.
So I started. It was going great until one day I had one Logic project which was over 30 minutes long.. I was experiencing some practical problems with managing everything and things were getting only more difficult to handle. I simply had too many tracks and plugins, my MacBook wasn't up for it! I were not able to remove later something I didn't really like.
Basically I had to split this huge project into smaller project files but later things changed too much and the tracks were not always so compatible anymore. The original plan didn't work, yet even today I don't actually know how many tracks there are on this album. Somewhere between 9-18 but I've splitted it into 14. I have to try again but I felt this album had to be finished like this.
Clearly there are few individual tracks which were done long before (Abyss, Green Lane, This is Where). Some of the tracks are actually longer than in the album now and can be released as non-mixed album. So that's why this is now called as Mixed Edition. |

| Interesting. I've liked Miika Kuisma's productions for quite some time. Although lately, I can't remember hearing much from him that I've actually liked. But I will definitely check this out. Any plans for a CD release? Limited edition for Finnish shops maybe? ;) |

CD is not possible.. this is 1h 33m long, so it won't fit a CD. If there is enough demand then maybe we'll cut some tracks and make it, but I wouldn't like to make that cut :) |

Too bad. All the cover art kinda goes to waste with only digital files. Anyway, I still need to listen to the samples, I might not even like it (although I doubt it). :toothless |

Listened to the samples and sadly they didn't do much for me. :(
Everything sounded somehow hollow or something. I'll have to hear the full thing before making my final judgment though. |

very interesting idea Miika and fantastic result, even if it's now a little different from what you've planned at the beginning, i feel it and like it a lot |

This is exactly the problem I have with many of Miikas records. The guy got huge potential and I really like some of his tracks (Miika when will we see a digital release of Ambush? :))
But somehow he still falls in the same soulless uplifting overly melodic trap. I miss the edgy sound he had in his earliest productions. Now it all sounds too flat too smooth.
The last production of his that I enjoyed was his remix of James Alexander & Pete Gawtry - Lost In You. That one was good. |
