what's happening to the bass in new trance?

I've noticed that a lot of newish (let's say post 2008/09) trance tracks have very little bass. This is especially true for artist albums. For example from Markus Schulz's last album; especially the track Unsaid, which sounds (to me) like someone hipassed the entire track at something like 80 Hz. And Armin's latest single Full Focus (and also Tuvan and Aisha) sound so bass lacking.

I've noticed this for a while now. Is there some secret I'm not aware of? Are they making it more radio friendly b
I've also noticed the same about the kicks. Especially First State tracks have a lot of these "bassless" very trebley kicks.
I don't know, I really like a powerful, bassy kicks and basses and some of these newer tracks sound so hi-fi.

But then again, there are tracks that are so insanely bass heavy, I can only wonder how that sounds on a really big PA. I.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oCVkD4EAJA

This depends a lot, uplifting trance tracks have now a lot of sidechain compression and the bass is very powerful.

There's only an explanation for the common trance tracks, you named 2 of the most commercial artists right now, popy people don't like the loud "boom, boom, boom" that's why the kick remains but softer.

The low end is used for big sounds systems to add deepness, but this tracks i bet are more focused to home listening, notice also that markus often plays the big room reconstructions, changes the kick/snare and some little things and it's ready for a big venue.

In Armin's case he often plays other remixes, and people are so blinded with his god light to feel the difference between a good bassline and a worst one.

I haven't heard these tracks - are they even louder than other tracks these days? The loudness of trance tracks is limited by the bass content - make the kick and bass smaller and you'll be able to drive the overall level up.

Ugghh; you really have no clue do you?

It has nothing to do with "poppy people don't like boom boom boom"

It has everything to do with what they can fit in the spectrum. In Markus case in that track there are big vocals. He wants them to stand out. Therefore something has to be sacrificed and in this case it's the bass.

And on a related note... Markus album sucks; I wish he would stop making commercial asspuke and go back to the dark prog that made him unique & great:(

if you want to use vocals you add a limiter... it's fail.
Subtle
Having only heard Tuvan i have to say it has a smooth bassline.

its because the arenas now has too many subwoofers compared to piezoelectric horns. things arre out of balance

it can also be to avoid sound like pinknoise (now that trance is so fullon theres no dynamics left).

Trance these days is like a jenga game, each year they remove elements from of it until its complete collapse.
They already took the melody, the dynamics and all the synth sounds besides the supersaw...the bass is next.

Here is a sample from ASOT 2015:
