dubstep is something I like to listen to in my car or at home, but not really at a club, maybe an after party or lounge.

Dubstep is basically the sound effects from the Transformers movies set to a beat. :P
Dubstep is cool in a dive bar with really booming bass. Clubs are too squeaky clean for dubstep. It's a grimy, dark form of music, so the venue should reflect that.
I might just feel that way because the divey, hipster part of ATL is where all of the dubstep shows are, including the weekly "Atlanta Bass Wars", so I got used to that kind of atmosphere. By the time I moved here, though, it was even being played in Buckhead frat bars. I think its ability to be easily mixed with hip-hop is causing it to explode in Atlanta very, very quickly.
Actually, dubstep is the one form of EDM I don't mind being mixed with hip-hop, because the sound actually fits if it's done well. |

Aug 30, 2010 10:35 am US/Pacific L.A. Sued For Cancelling Tiesto After Rave DeathLOS ANGELES (AP) ¯ Organizers of a Los Angeles rave that ended with the death of a 15-year-old girl are suing the city for canceling a concert it organized with electronic music artist Tiesto.
Insomniac Inc. filed the breach-of-contract lawsuit Friday against the city for canceling an October concert at the Convention Center.
The lawsuit seeks a court order allowing the concert to go on. The city attorney's office did not immediately comment on the lawsuit Monday.
Insomniac organized the Electric Daisy Carnival in June. The two-day stadium event was marred by the girl's death from a suspected drug overdose and 118 arrests, mostly for drug possession.
But Insomniac says the Tiesto concert would be indoors and limited to adults. |

| This is getting insane. Hell I was with a promoter the other day who was asking about venues for an event and the venue owner asked what genre of music. We said mainstream dance music. The guy then asks if its electronic only or if there will be some hip hop. My promoter buddy said no hiphop just a mix of dance music and 18+ and the guy is like if there is no hiphop in the mix than you cant throw it cause its then a rave. I left laughing so hard. It was just a few years ago when hip hop was deemed the god awful youth wrecker. Now its electronic music. YOU to people who cant control their drug use. You ruined it for all of us. Loveparade, this (though i could really care less about THIS event, and many other edm acts getting canned left and right). |

I don't get it either. There were rampant news reports back in the late 90s/early 00s about raves and e and all that, and raves started getting shut down, the UFOs and glowsticks mostly disappeared, and I -THOUGHT- we had moved on.
I guess not. -_- |

there just isn't anything else more negative to report on. negative news = attention = ratings.
The more negative it gets, the more ratings.

Yep, gotta agree with you here. Sure we can all point out planning flaws in raves but it's not planning flaws that lead to arrests and overdoses. It's dumbass people. And dumbass people are now beginning to cost us ACTUAL music fans legitimate events that we enjoy going to. And I feel like there's nothing we can do.
Lame.
Thanks, teenagers and other e-tards who come to raves and clubs to be idiots instead of enjoying the music. |

I say we scapegoat the post hip-hop generation of kids coming into the scene. The jackass-itry level of these kids has skyrocketed through the roof ever since EDC 2010.
Take a pill, act like a jackass, jump a fence into the colesieum, kick a cop.. and all hell breaks lose. The news of course eats it up.
