Yep, gotta agree with you here. Sure we can all point out planning flaws in raves but it's not planning flaws that lead to arrests and overdoses. It's dumbass people. And dumbass people are now beginning to cost us ACTUAL music fans legitimate events that we enjoy going to. And I feel like there's nothing we can do.
Lame.
Thanks, teenagers and other e-tards who come to raves and clubs to be idiots instead of enjoying the music. |
Planning flaws led to a lot of major injuries. Yes, individual people jumped the fences and crashed the gates, but anyone throwing a big event like EDC 2010 should have known that there was a high chance of that happening. IMO, Insomniac's overselling of the event and/or poor crowd control in the Coliseum (perhaps a crowd that big cannot be completely controlled) was an enormous failure and I hope they will learn from it.
Drugs have ALWAYS been a big part of EDM, just like with hiphop and rock and almost every other modern music genre, and they likely always will be. And it isn't just illegal drugs that cause problems. How many people got alcohol poisoning during EDC? How many people got into car crashes due to alcohol intoxication? How many people jumped the fences because they were drunk? We won't know because ethanol is a legal drug and doesn't have the same stigma as ecstasy. |

Not sure how insomniac can plan ahead to accomodate people who aren't there to have fun, but are there to be selfish and do whatever the they want. I wanna be on the main floor. I'll just bum rush, trample people, and hop the fence! That will make me happy. everyone else! I'm rolling balls. I'd like to shuffle step. Let me just break it out right here and shove other people out of the way! yay! Insomniac has to babysit people at this point. My solution: 21+ events will minimize this stuff by quite a lot.
As far as your 2nd point, yes alcohol causes plenty of problems as well so it's total bs if ecstacy is the only problem with the cancellation. However if there was an event and an underage (under the limit for the entire EVENT, not even the age limit to drink) girl died from alcohol poisoning, I'm sure we'd hear about it too. So I think the city has a point there. But Insomniac has remedied it by enforcing age limits and checking all IDs (or so I've heard) so WTF? |

Your post is full of stereotypes, its funny. No one will die from alcohol because they pretty much only sell beer. No shots or bottle service (only in VIP). You can die but it would take 100 dollars worth of beer to do it (or more if their tolerant).
21+ Isn't going to do ... enough 21+ e-tards, retards in this world as well (my college campus included (big top 30 institution) who could end up pulling a Sasha. 18+ is fine, they are already adults legally. Your basically taking an adults right away to go to a EDM concert. Thats no bueno either. |

| 21+ is a little much. I think 18+ will suffice. Then only legal adults are allowed to come, liability goes down, and it makes it easier to say that what somebody does there is their own responsibility. |

Yes there are stupid 21+ people but less so, and also less percentage wise, than 16+ and 18+. But yes I will take your point, especially since I believe the drinking age should be 18 anyway.
As far as no one dying from alcohol - not sure what your point is. And what stereotypes are you talking about? |

No one listen to this guy... he is barely a trance addict in training... maybe 16 years old and condones jackassitry.. shuffle stepping is lame.. especially if it for the underlying hip hop purpose of showing off... sell beer? are you smoking crack boy.. i got enough alcohol. 21 will just minimize the situation. take a stat class or something. 18 is okay, but now I fully understand why 21 is best... wait your turn like everyone else has.. it sucks .. but it eventually comes.. and you'll be like damn system-7 was right..18 + is lame.. proof..Giant NYE

IMO you blame way too much on ecstasy. When I was ~21, I worked as a yellow-jacket security person at a rock concert. A bunch of people tried to rush the entrance on a number of occasions and they were drunk, not rolling. I would bet a lot of the people who tried to jump the fence at EDC were drunk.

It is hard to die of alcohol poisoning, but very easy to die (or kill someone) in a drunk driving accident. If an EDC patron died in a drunk driving accident on the 710 heading home, the death likely would not be connected to EDC in the same way as an OD at EDC. |

At Giant NYE a ton of people were rolling and light shows filled the ballroom... but most people sure looked nicer than at a rave. :P |

Honestly, I dno't really care what it is. Drugs, alcohol, whatever... probably a combination of both, actually. You can be drunk and have fun. You can be rolling and have fun. Neither has to involve crashing fences and shoving people and all that.
I wrote a post on this on my blog with a call to action: http://labeatconnection.com/2010/09...of-los-angeles/
maybe you will agree with me
| quote: | | I am calling to everyone right now to TONE IT DOWN. I feel like Lil' Jon at EDC. Chill the out people! Enjoy the music. Enjoy the world class DJs that come to our city, play to huge crowds, then list the event as their favorite of the year. Enjoy the people that fly from all over the world to come to events in LA. Enjoy the massive productions and lights that are staged just for you. Don't ruin it by going out of control, being selfish, and doing what YOU want to do at a particular moment rather than thinking of the greater good. That's what dance music is all about - huge crowds of people coming together to enjoy music, feel the energy and the vibes, and take these songs and experiences to another level. It can be the best feeling in the world standing among thousands of people with your hands in the air enjoying a track by one of your favorite DJs. However, just a few people can blow it by getting out of control, trampling or pushing someone else, taking too many drugs, or endangering the safety of others. STOP RUINING IT FOR THE REST OF US. |

Of course most people hate the gate-crashers, but if you want to fix the problem it is important to not blame only one group of people (ecstasy users) when they are only a subset of all a-holes (a lot of drunk and sober people crashed the gates too).
Originally you were implying that all the gate-crashers were high on ecstasy when you said,
"Not sure how insomniac can plan ahead to accomodate people who aren't there to have fun, but are there to be selfish and do whatever the they want. I wanna be on the main floor.
