Its funny how many people hated Brock. And many because of his pro wrestling past.
The fact is, that pro wrestling is full of pure athletes - exactly what you need to be to excel at MMA. Upcoming Bobby Lashley, and new bandwagon jumper Dave Batista will likely fight in the Octagon within 2 years. If the useless tools Slice and Toney gets a chance, they sure deserve one (if for nothing else, then for the PPV revenue). |

Brock took a beating from Carwin and I'm honestly impressed at how tough his chin actually is. We haven't seen him take a serious punch yet and he took more than a few in this fight. He defended himself well enough to get out of serious danger, and Carwin made a rookie mistake by punching himself out. It should have been obvious to him that Lesnar wasn't THAT badly hurt since he was keeping active and wriggling around on the mat, and he should have slowed it down and paced himself.
Actually, this fight reminded me of a typical Kimbo fight... Come out swinging fierce, and hope you win in 3 minutes or less. Oh well, his mistake is Lesnar's gain. This fight just gave more credibility to Lesnar, which I think he actually deserves. Since he's entered the UFC, he's ONLY fought the best they can find for him, and he's winning. Eventually the no-nothing purists have to get off their high-horse and call a spade a spade. He's winning, and you can't argue with "win".
I'd love to see a rematch though. I'd be willing to bet that Lesnar comes back with a better stand-up game, and Carwin comes back with a head between his shoulders. |

| One of the fighters routinely enters the octagon to Armin van Buuren's "Sail"... I should know the name but I can't think of it right now. |

UFC 117 Card with my predictions
Silva vs. Sonnen = If Silva takes this fight seriously then Silva. Otherwise I predict a Sonnen win
Fitch vs. Alves = Alves
Guida vs. Dos Anjos = Guida
Huges vs. Almeida = Almeida
Nelson vs. Dos Santos = Dos Santos
Hazelett vs. Story = Story
Davis vs. Wallace = Davis
Boetsch vs. Brown = Brown
Hendricks vs. Brenneman = Brenneman
Struve vs. Morecraft = Struve
Saunders vs. Hallman = Saunders
On a side not my MMA instructor Claude Patrick has been booked to fight James Wilks this October in London. Im pretty pumped up for that :)
Also, what do you think of the UFC signing Jake Shields from Strikeforce? I see this guy climbing the rankings fast and getting a shot at GSP in the future. His first fight is against Martin Kampmann. |

Can't wait to see Shields in there, his first fight is gonna be a battle.
When he gets GSP it will force GSP to stand and fight again which will be nice, Shields can take a punch too, Hendo smoked him a few times. |

Lashley is different from Batista though, Batista is way too old and has no base to start training from.
Lasley is a very good wrestler and should be able to take most heavyweights down. Think he is a bit of a puss though because of the competition is electing to fight. |

agreed...certainly one of the best UFC PPV cards this year, if not the best.
I'm looking forward to Shields' fighting in the UFC. I've long thought that he would be GSP's biggest threat at 170. He's been beating high level guys for years in other orgs. |

wow i cant believe how badly silva got schooled. He really should of tried to stand up more.
Im happy he pulled a last minute win!
and what about that tall dude (skyscrapper) coming back from 1st round killing to knock the guy out!
Big country......got one hell of a chin. I wish rogan had interviewed him and told him to layoff the Wendys and get in shape! |

I believe him when he says his ribs were injured. His takedown defense is usually much better than it was, but I think that spread-eagle takedown defense puts a lot of pressure on the ribs.
Actually, if his ribs really were injured, there's a LOT of things that he does that he probably couldn't do very well. He didn't start moving until round 4.
Normally I'd be skeptical about him actually having an injury, but after one of the rounds ended you can see him point to the right side of his rib-cage and say something to his corner.
Sonnen was almost strictly going for Silva's head, which probably ended up working in Silva's favour since it was his RIBS that were hurting. Sonnen should have tried out some body shots, maybe he'd have got a TKO.
This fight just goes to show that you can't leave it up to the judges. I'm a big fan of Silva and I'm happy as that he was able to throw that triangle on just in time. You could see he was trying to set it up as early as late round 4.
Wow what a fight though. |
