However, if you're even vaguely like you are on the net, you're not even close to being on the Autistic 'scale', Lews. |
exactly. |

No, they don't necessarily.
You're thinking of 'savants'. Savants are autistic, but not all people with autism are savants. |

a lot of autistic people, even ones who aren't savants, are on their own level of intelligence in some way or another. i believe savant is just a label for the very very few that have an observable, almost superhuman talent in some way. i have an autistic cousin who's definitely not a savant, but always amazed me... despite being difficult to deal with just like the girl in the video, he makes connections between things that no "normal" kid ever would... i remember when he was as young as 5 or 6 he would randomly break into character and cite lines from movies at relevant times with impressive accuracy... hard to describe behaviour/personality but you can just tell it's something much, much different than a simple lack of aptitude apparent in other disabilities. a lot of people i've talked to who worked with autistic kids get the same feeling. |

Actually, Nou has a point. It is random, but it can also be an adaptation to the environment. I read a few years back that apparently peoples thumbs are getting longer because we're using them so much more, especially with phones. |
Still, it isn't a two way street, which is what I meant to correct: All adaptations to the environment are random, but not all random mutations are adaptations to the environment. |

Her case is very severe. My younger brother has Autism, but is able to communicate and do a lot of daily tasks normally. Like Slylee said, the diagnosis of Autism is very broad.
The diagnosis itself of Autism seems like such a cop-out to me, because of how broad the diagnosis is. I almost look at it as just a generic labeling, the same as saying someone is Mentally Retarded.
I have a tough time labeling my brother with the same disorder as this girl, when my brother is fairly capable of speaking & interacting with others. He just can't hold long conversations without them running off course from a particular subject. His mind seems to be running in overdrive all the time, so he'll lose focus quickly of one subject and move onto another. He also doesn't have the need/desire to have physical spasms to block sensory-input, nor does he have a burning sensation in his body at all times. The girl actually seems very coherent when communicating through her laptop, to me it almost seems like she's not autistic at all, but some other disorder. Because, once she found the proper medium to communicate, she seems completely normal mentally.
Unfortunately, I don't have an alternative for diagnosis (nor does anyone else it seems), so it just seems to all be umbrella'd under the same disorder. | I am not slylee :p
I totally think she is autistic - just because she is able to think pretty normal and is actually able to express herself - does make her a unique case. But there is no way u can say the flailing of the arms & sensory issues and social issues she has - are NOT related to Autism.
Autism isn't necessarily a mental disorder it is a lot more social.
This reminds me of a 4 year old boy who could spell almost any word in the most adorable way. He would go "H-E-L-L-O SPACE M-Y SPACE". He was spelling like if he were typing and he could spell very big words. Oh and if he messed up he would say backspace lol. |

What the is this I hear about autism being a part of evolution? :stongue:
quote: | Maybe we should encourage the breeding of Autistic people so that we can maybe force an adaption to their hypersensitivity... I think that could lead to some interesting traits. |
You know, even through everyone said you were a ing idiot, I always through you were a pretty wise guy, but this post pretty much proved that you dont have any idea what the hell you are talking about.
First off, the body is complex beyond your wildest imagination. You CANNOT even begin the comprehend the complexities of the enzimes and when you finally do you start understanding, you see how deep exactly the rabbit-hole goes.
Second of all, autism is a biological error. Somewhere in the body a protein, a catalysis is not working how it should be. From what I know it could have something to do with a certain inhibitor or a wrongfully C/G A/T DNA codon in the body which isnt coding properly.
But to claim that this is something of an evolution is wrong both out of evolutionary, moral & ethical perspectives.
To breed them? Are you ing dense? You think this is something that we can do like that? And who the hell do you think, what normal scientist will do something that is considered hurting people?
Biology and genetic should push forward towards giving everyone to opportunity to a normal life, not test idiotic theories on innocent humans that deserve to type at a computer, enjoy life, have a relationship.
You can ask scientists do this on your future child if you are so eager to test your theory. |

Don't you think though that there might be a reason for it?
We have effectivly silenced evolution in our species. Maybe this is an intended step for some reason? |
maybe we can also try to mate a lion with a monkey. you know help evolution along a bit. we could call it a lonkey. It could swing from trees eat bananas claw the out of and hunt like the king of the jungle but yet be flexible and agile like a monkey. maybe we could attach a saddle to it, grow ponytails and attach them to the lonkey's tail this way we can tame them and be one with them. You could ride it around swinging from tree to tree with your magical axe of reverisibility that you crafted for the military but stole back! and you can start your own civilivzation...a secret society, in the jungle called the nou world order....
nou you live in fantasy land hahah |
