Pretty much the same here. I used to hang out at GS a lot, but I got so tired of the elitist attitudes around there I stopped going. |

dude i've had to PM people on that forum for just blatantly lying. they'll convince some kid he needs a 6k 1970's keyboard to get a sound he's after and their proof is just a joke. Those guys really don't know what their talking about in the electronic music discussion section but in other sections i've had a lot of help.
KVR i think is the best, i see everyone from BT to Josh Gabriel post on that forum in a variety of contexts, plus developers really seem to pay attention to wants/needs/complaints on there. |

Agreed. It's really gotten bad over there the past year or so. It seems like the only rules on that forum are: 1. Whoever has the most hardware wins. 2. The only acceptable artists are JMJ, Vangelis and Vince Clarke. 3. All software sucks. Its really ridiculous how out of hand some of the arguments get on there and how much crap gets spewed on there.
The mods don't really help much either as they seem to be on the side of the analog hardware elitists. Its too bad really, because there can be some interesting discussions on there from time to time, but there is just too much snobbery to be tolerated on a regular basis.
I should clarify that I have experienced this behavior only in the electronic music discussion section. The high end section seems pretty level headed. I pretty much only go there for obscure equipment questions nowadays, which is rare.

I really do like KVR, but I don't spend much time there. Not really sure why it hasn't caught on for me. |

This is true of a lot of places, I've been. This forum has its moments of immaturity but I've seen a lot of haughty gear-snobs tear down people in product-specific technical support forums who had just spent $500+ on a piece of software that wasn't working. |

I agree. I think all forums have this to some level, but this forum in particular tends to be pretty good about that type of stuff for the most part. Most of the advice given by the regulars is pretty sound IMO. On here, there seems to be a general tendency to want to actually help people out as opposed to wanting to scoreboard people. |

Yup. The varieties of expertise here, too, range so that almost any question posed gets an answer, and usually a good one, in short order. I think, here, the tendency is to take pride in our ability to help people rather than have a superficial **** measuring contest. I love looking at the studios some people have set up for themselves, here. That it's not being thrust out as a measure of authority speaks volumes. |

| My main problem with KVR is that it has too many forums. I mean, TA has lots of sections, but all the production topics are centralized in a single forum here, so you can take them all in more efficiently. I like that. |

There are a lot of gear snobs on that forum(who would have guessed?), but there are some brilliant threads on that forum. Their Q&A section makes me jealous. We should have one of our own! |

completely agree with you guys about GS. There's a lot of people pretending to know more than they do or the fact they're on GS makes them tend to recommend over the top things that just aren't realistic or feasable. Some of the techincal info is amazing but I always have to keep a level head in some of those threads because so much of the content is thoery and becomes redundant when you apply real life (like how many EDM producers really need atomic clocks feeding their aroura/radar saystem for single track vocal recording?)
KVR is decent but nearly too niche in content or how specific the sub forums are and there's something about the interface that never grabbed me.
There's something about TA that has a great mix of humor, personalities expertise, knowledge and willingness to help that keeps me coming back, even tough my days of trance (as such) are long behind me.
It's actually fairly unique and can't really think of any other forums that has the balance like this one. |
