What's up with celebrities and Twitter / Facebook?

I'm usually pretty good at figuring out motives, but there's one I don't get yet. Why do celebs put up generic questions on Twitter & Facebook that are obviously designed to just get massive responses? Like "What are you doing this weekend" or "What are you having for dinner?". Are they just trying to seem interested in order to appease their fans and garner more support in upcoming projects? That seems the most likely, but I feel like there's something more to it. Any ideas? |

it's so they can read through all the responses and feel really good about themselves - given their weekend plans and their dinner plans hahahaha |

i think it's more of a psychological thing where the celebrity feels he/she can get in touch with his/her fans by asking a generic fans like that to give the fans a feeling the celebrity is actually his/her friend. i sense it as more of a scheme to have the fans think the celebrity is "cool","in touch with his/her fans", and "well grounded and knows who the real fans are". pretty lame if you ask me. :conf: |

I really think there's more of a marketing angle to it though. |

Pretty much this. |

They are just trying to get the fans to think that they care about them, and in return the fans will support them in anything they do |

honestly sometimes i think it's because they are on the road, bored waiting for their flight or something and don't have else to do so they go through the responses to amuse themselves for 10min. some people you can tell are just addicted to twitter/fb |

twitter is good for seeing convos between producers/djs you like, and sportsmen/tv people who are good at their job, getting insights into what they're upto & things you don't always see. I think when used properly it's actually quite good. btw. @bas offers blowjob to fernando torres if spain win wc 2010 ^_^ |
