| This is my second time seeing him.. first time was 2007. I was very impressed. How does this guy do it? Seamless mixing for the most part. Great transitions, awesome build-ups.. very consistent progression throughout the whole set. I was loving the old school chuggy sounding techno he was dropping at various points in his set.. and the disco vibes towards the end. He truly is a legend. Good crowd. Fun night. Two thumbs up! |

it was my first time seeing him...i always loved him..and i was so excited i finally got to see him live. i got there around midnight.. and i was so disappointed. :(( i found his set very slow...boring... he didnt really put me in the mood to dance. like..i dunno. it was all very monotonus. he played some good techno tracks tho..but once he made u like go up and dance then the next track put u down like...sooo slow. i dunno. i was expecting more.. what a disappointment. :(
i had good friends with me though...nice crowd..i like the place too.. soo i kinda had fun! but..ahh the music..?nothing special.. |

| Apk - that was the most relentless I've seen Danny play since his "crazy" days back in '02. Not sure where slow and monotonous came in to play for you, but I thought he ripped it. Wasn't my fav Danny set - but still great nonetheless |

| His set was up and down for me. There were periods I didn't like, but then some tracks were just bonkers. I was so frickin' exhausted from my long week and then being on the boat, and decided to go sober b/c I had to work today so I spent a lot of the night in the back area on the couches just enjoying the tunes. Glad I stayed until the end, but I passed out as soon as I my head hit the pillow! |

Overall I would give the night a passing grade. I thought he gave a little bit of something for whatever you were looking for.
The free beer was pretty awesome too.

It was a mission to get to Footwork being how tired, drained and burnt I was from the boat cruise prior. I didn't want to miss a single second of his set, as I brought my tools for digging: I brought my bulldozer, but it wasn't possible to fit it through the door.. I had to settle for a 10 foot shovel :). It was pretty disappointing for Danny to arrive late, and I didn't care for the music until he came on. I don't think The Junkies were the right choice to open, but I'll give them mad respect and credit for filling in on such a short notice.
Danny's first 3 hours were blissful; some of the best deep and groovy prog tracks I've heard to date. I was enticed by the sounds, and my feet were sliding by themselves. He then brought up the bpm and played some digweed-esque darker prog which had our necks twisted like twisty straws! I texted Knox and said the set's already on the levels of awesomeness that 2007's was. Unfortunately I spoke too soon. From 2:30 until pretty much the end of his set he decided to play hard, and bored me with almost 2 hours of boring, bland tech house with no substance. I swear it was the same track being played. He dug even deeper and played some pretty decent techno, but I was still not completely feeling it. I was scared he was going to dig even deeper, and play some industrial stuff. I would not have been prepared for such a sound. I wasn't dressed right... I usually leave my radiation suit at home. To my delight, during the last portion of his set, he managed to find more treasures, and played more deeper and funky, which made me smile again.
Overall, it was a bitter sweet performance. In my mind, the portion of his set between 2:30 to 4:30 doesn't exist, and with what's left, those first few hours were A-grade. ;)
Ps. The whole Heineken promotion was awesome. I want one of those digital graffiti walls! |
