Yeah man, it takes a lot of hardwork to be Verona for the night lol.

I got there pretty late, at like 3:30. $30 was a ridiculous amount to pay for the night, but it was my fault for coming that late. I have to agree with you, the music was decent tech housey stuff that had me going for a few tracks here and there but it wasn't outstanding. But you have to give kudos to the man for spinning that long, I guess something has to give! Didn't see any TAs, but good crowd as always there though.

It was a mission to get to Footwork being how tired, drained and burnt I was from the boat cruise prior. I didn't want to miss a single second of his set, as I brought my tools for digging: I brought my bulldozer, but it wasn't possible to fit it through the door.. I had to settle for a 10 foot shovel :). It was pretty disappointing for Danny to arrive late, and I didn't care for the music until he came on. I don't think The Junkies were the right choice to open, but I'll give them mad respect and credit for filling in on such a short notice.

Danny's first 3 hours were blissful; some of the best deep and groovy prog tracks I've heard to date. I was enticed by the sounds, and my feet were sliding by themselves. He then brought up the bpm and played some digweed-esque darker prog which had our necks twisted like twisty straws! I texted Knox and said the set's already on the levels of awesomeness that 2007's was. Unfortunately I spoke too soon. From 2:30 until pretty much the end of his set he decided to play hard, and bored me with almost 2 hours of boring, bland tech house with no substance. I swear it was the same track being played. He dug even deeper and played some pretty decent techno, but I was still not completely feeling it. I was scared he was going to dig even deeper, and play some industrial stuff. I would not have been prepared for such a sound. I wasn't dressed right... I usually leave my radiation suit at home. To my delight, during the last portion of his set, he managed to find more treasures, and played more deeper and funky, which made me smile again.

Overall, it was a bitter sweet performance. In my mind, the portion of his set between 2:30 to 4:30 doesn't exist, and with what's left, those first few hours were A-grade. ;)

Ps. The whole Heineken promotion was awesome. I want one of those digital graffiti walls!

i'm going to quote this because this is EXACTLY how i feel about the night as well. spot on cribby.

I wonder if Danny Howells received less pay for missing the first 2 hours of his set.

Anyone know the answer?

it was decent. as others have said, not the best set i've heard from him, but i still enjoyed myself. didn't matter to me that he started at 11:30 cos i wasn't going to be there until midnight anyway, but sucks for those who got there early. had to sit at the side for most of the end of his set because i was pretty tired and the music wasn't really grabbing me by the balls.

overall, fun night and i'm glad he came back finally. let's not wait another two years, ok? :)

When Danny was on fire he was on fire. Not his best performance I have seen from him but I was still just happy to have such a master playing for us behind the decks once again.

First three hours were unreal. I was happy that even though his set was not the full 7 hours, he still managed to play some sweet melodies, funky proggy beats to start off his night. The the story was going to be shorter, it was still being told. Around 3ish he dropped some really drugged up proggy mind altering sounds and beats. Kinda had a really warped Digweed-esque sound to it. I was lost for that moment in time.... Fantastic to hear in a small room like Footwork.

After that there was this lull of meh music that just didn't grab me at all. Didn't enjoy that chapter of the book. Sit down and listen to the music times were in order. After about an hour of that the redemption began. The last track Danny dropped was such a great happy feel good song. One of the things I love most about his storytelling extended sets is how he just ends it off on a positive feel good moment.

Kudos Mr. Howells.... And please lets not wait almost two years to have him back again.....

Free beer = fantastic. Graffitti wall and drawing the Waves of Trance added some interesting entertainment and the promoters of it were also giving free beer for drawing. Ryan winning 50 beers = best. Cuzo's sketch dance = always entertaining.

This was my first time seeing Danny and was supremely impressed. I didn't stop moving. Jammed hard all day from the trance boat to Howell's.

Awesome night.

For me, this night falls JUST short of 2007, and eons better than his set in 08.

Multiple free beers upon arrival was adding the first layer of icing to the cake base. Warmed up a bit to the Junkies who were playing really chill techy-filler music, some of which had me grooving. The rest of the time until Howells came on I just got caught up with friends and hammered down Heiney's.....:haha:

With 2 hours gone by and still no Howells yet, I was kind of skeptical as to how he was going to start us off and how the remaining 5hrs would play out

.........UBER impressed I was, he came on determined as . Opened up with prog that made me sway like a palm tree back and forth under moderate winds, gro0oO00oooooooooovyyyy baby :)

I know a lot of ppl don't like/don't expect Howells to play a bit on the hard side or somewhat-dark, but between 1:30-3am IMO was my favourite! This was the best ~2hrs of Danny I've heard to date!! Had this eerie older chug-a-lug techno that really had me going on the dancefloor!! Did NOT expect to hear this from him so it was quite a surprise!!

Last hour - 2 was a bit more downtempo-disco-house but I didn't mind as it was a good way to wind down a night.

Howells is the man! He is SO suited for footwork, and I hope footwork books him sooner than later ;)

Love this tune so much. Was surprised to hear it played that night (although I shouldn't be cause it's right up Danny's style)

My 0.02 on the night...

- Free beer really set the tone for this night to be a slopfest. I hope Heineken decides to throw more parties at FW.

- Was disappointed with Danny coming on late but it was to be expected. Most DJ's show up late

- Music was great. Even though it wasn't close to the best I've heard from Danny it's still better than 90% of other DJ's. There were times when I was thinking to myself "WTF is this garbage? Has he lost his mind??" immediately followed by "OMFG! This CANNOT get any better." Pretty up and down, but for the most part it was positive.

- The crowd...wow! It's very rare to get a collection of pro's like we got this Saturday at Footwork. One glance over the crowd and it was pleasantly obvious that almost everyone knew why they came out, who they were seeing and what they're supposed to be doing. Flashbacks of System/Boa days for sure.

Overall party gets a 9.0/10 from me while Danny's set (on the Elite Scale, of course) gets a 7/10.

I pretty much echo your sentiments exactly. It wasn't Danny's A-game. I think it was evident from the get-go (with him showing up late) that he wasn't completely into this evening. To me, it seemed like he was just there doing his job. That said, Danny's b-game is better than 90% of dj's a-game. I haven't seen him rip it like that for such an extended period before. He dropped some serious bombs in that set. I still highly enjoyed the set.

As an aside, winning 50 free Heineken's was pretty awesome. I definitely got a nice wobble going on as a result. :D

This I couldn't agree more with. I love a Danny party for that reason.

(well except for the group of people at 3-330 that were arriving and complaining about the $30 cover and asking... so who's even playing here?? Go home... lol)
