Question About BT at Voyeur in SD....
View this Thread in Original format
DjWoody
BT & Victor Dinaire are playing at Voyeur on July 30th. Anyone know where I can buy presales? Is it hard/hassle to get into Voyeur? I don't wanna make the drive and not get in.
Caillou
Not hard to get into at all. I have never had a problem even with more popular DJ's (Cosmic Gate, Ferry). Here's the site to RSVP but again shouldn't be a problem getting in.

you won't have a problem just get there on time (before 10:15). San Diego has a notoriously late crowd which is hilarious considering every venue closes at 1:30!

Oh sweet! I'll be going this night. Haven't seen BT in years and I liked his new album.

Yup.

It's because the majority of the SD scene are "scenesters," which is the main reason why I go to LA LV and SF to see DJ's I want to see.

I was amazed at how early people went out when I first moved here a couple of months ago, and then when I heard the bartenders yell "last call" at like 1:25am, I realized why. :P

At least the clubs in LA stay open later even if they're not serving. ATL used to be 4am last call, but they changed the law a few years back, so now you can't serve past 2:30, and all of the clubs close at 3. Considering most headliners don't go on until 12-12:30, the days of 4 hour sets came to an abrupt close. :(

Ahh thats crazy, I never knew Georgia served until 4am.

And ya SD scene kinda sucks. You would think with soooo many places playing EDM we would have an okay scene, we don't. It's such a shame, I have so much pride for SD but the one thing I love (EDM) we have some of the tiest scenes in CA.

Out of anyone that has done anything with the scene here in SD (eventhough I hate to admit it) has been Tim and EV. He has been the only one that has brought something to SD, he does cater to the douche-bag crowd but he consistently brings in EDM acts. He has been consistent for the past 7+ years? NO ONE else can claim that here in SD.

Most of the crowd down here has no idea what the is going on. Go to any EDM club down here when a headliner is playing, ask a random person and they will have no ing idea who is playing. I'm not saying that everyone is clueless, but the majority of San Diegans are clueless. Other then the hipster electro bars and the clicky deep house spots we have no real scene/following. A side from those places the only other place I can think of that has a good EDM vibe is Spin. And it has a good vibe because people have to go out of their way to go there, and because of this you have a crowd where the majority knows what EDM is about.

Now to wrap up this threadjack...lol

It's only a matter of time before one of the few places that plays EDM goes under. It sucks, but it's going to happen. You have 3-4 big EDM players on the scene and not enough demand for it. I have been to (in one night) 2-3 different clubs down here in SD when a headliner DJ is playing and it's dead. It's only a matter of time until a place falls off the map. Investors don't like loosing money for long periods of time.

New places are always cool, but as soon as the hype around them fizzles and rent increases and people stop showing up its only a waiting game to see them shut their doors or go mainstream...

So you're saying TJ/Baja has a better scene even though it's just a freakin' fence separating the two Metros?

They have a better scene then SD and OC combined haha

I saw Markus down in TJ with Greg and Michelle, AMAZING party. I went to a techno/tech party and saw Droog play as the sun came up on a beach side mansion, AMAZING party. I saw Deep Dish down there on the rooftop of that one place, AMAZING party. I saw Alex Peace and Paul Najera at Tangaloo, AMAZING party. I almost went to see Tiesto down there my friends went, AMAZING party...Haha I can go on and on for days...

Only place I haven't partied (EDM wise)has been Mexicali. I missed out on Zabs and that other big party they had down there. :(

it's not really comparable markets, TJ has 1/4 of the talent come thru at way less of a rate. SD has 5-6 act's a month in all forms of EDM all over town, there's lot's to do. People complain about voyeur being too small but any bigger and it wouldn't make sense, the crowd just isn't there yet... look at OBEC or Belo. Those places need to do 1k in order to be busy. That's unsustainable in this market.

Voyeur isn't going anywhere in regards to your above post, we've got a really great model and we'll be pushing, like we have for over a year now the most forward thinking talent we can get our hands on.

That said Riva Starr next Friday!!!

In regards to SD having a lame scene, more people push the "party" aspect of it than the music, that's something at voyeur we've been conscious about. We constantly educate thru newsletters, social media, etc. You'd be surprised how many people come on Friday and say "i looked up XYZ DJ before i came, i'm really excited for tonight". People trust our bookings and we're growing the scene exponentially.

DjWoody
Anthony, will there be any presales for BT? I'm going for sure and I wanna make sure I get in. I've never had any problems getting into any club, and I would have for this to be my first. lol

SD sometimes have 5-6 acts a week. So in reality there is a ton of things to do. But just because one place is popping, and another one is not you can't compare the two? I think you can.

I am talking about the over vibe of the city. The feel when they have parties. The people dancing all over the place, having a good time and actually getting in to the music, fist pumping only goes so far. I am the biggest NorCal hater in the ing world, but I can't deny the fact that SF is probably the best place in America when it comes down to EDM to party. They might not get ALL the best acts, but that place has a vibe like no other.

I like how you bring everything back to Voyeur over and over. Not once did I mention that place, so why bring it up? Ohh wait...ya you're on pay roll.

I can care less about that place, you guys hate me and I hate you guys. Only reason why I went last time was because LBL and Adan (whom had a table) invited me. I won't go any further then that regarding that topic, because in reality it's no ones business other then mine. I try my hardest to bite my lip when it comes down to that place. Hence the reason why I never mentioned anything about you guys in this thread. I could have been talking about FLUXX or Spin or OB or Ivy or whatever when I made my first comment. I bite my lip so people won't say I'm a "hater" or " talker" or etc.

I look at OB and Belo and the other places, their doors are still open so I guess they are doing okay? They might not be EDM 100% of the time but they are still open.

I hate your venue, but I can't deny the fact that you guys do bring in good acts. You have to call a spade a spade. Our scene sucks. Don't try to sugar coat it, it's just not there. This is exactly why massives fail here. We are not centralized and no one cares. We have a decent underground scene but it's almost not even worth mentioning.

Around here, the only scene that is worse then ours is OC. If it wasn't for them we would be at the bottom of the barrel lol
