but the purists back then were lamenting about and making fun of that song for the very same reasons LOL

no doubt though there is a lot of crap out there

I think the problem is that the music changes very quickly. Especially electronic dance music (EDM), the fastest changing style of music. Every 5 years or so there's a big change, if you look back at the 40-year history of electronic music. There's a lot of pressure to come up with new sounds, innovation, being up-to-date and making a big name.

So some people like you and me can't keep up with it anymore. I stopped at around 2005. I still DJ mostly new music, but I listen mostly to the really oldskool stuff, which I like better. Its a tough statement/argument to consider today's music as or whatever not, that will always persist.

There is strong peer pressure for people to listen to the stuff that is hot/popular right now, at any time, any era. During the 80s, people made fun of 70s music, in 90s they trashed the 80s, and so on. A decade from now people will look at Deadmau5 music and laugh at it. Or, they already do, I suppose :stongue: but his sound will not be trendy for a long time, something new will come along and the new wave of purists will say how the music has changed for the worse, and so on and forth.

It means you're getting old

It does mean you are getting old. Which means you have better things to do than sort through the volume of new stuff coming out every week. I'd rather let someone else do it, and mix me a set for my listening pleasure while they're at it!

there is TONS of good music out there - it's just not necessarily "electronic".

I'm sure it's more about me not wanting to sift through a load of crap to get to the good stuff and also sure the scene is bigger so this is why it's harder to search for stuff. Earlier on it was easier to sort out the garbage from the good stuff b/c there was less of each.

Also: Anyone else get an PM off here for a radio interview?

There is very little investment cost to produce tracks now, so any kid can make a track on their home computer and put it up on Beatport, burying the quality releases under their weight. Also, dance music was born from oppression. You had to search it out if you wanted it. Now it's easily accessible, and watered down. Funny how the things we thought we wanted caused the opposite effect.

Your brain does produce less fun juice as you get older, but that doesn't mean most music today doesn't suck. It's still out there, just harder to find.

Lots of great music out there right now. Your tastes have changed as do all of ours over time.

I say go with it! Embrace the journey.

I think a lot of us do take the plunge and explore more music. It's not that we are "getting old", we just dont like the new music trends. Personally, I'm still going through many folders of new stuff that I downloaded over the past few months ... when I say new, I mean the older stuff that I didnt know before - new in my knowledge and collection, not new in the sense of date release.

There's so much music there, so many exotic music styles and genres. Music years ahead of its time, seminal tunes, beautiful music. :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

So as a result, I havent had the time in the last few years to explore the latest music releases for personal listening pleasures. I am still discovering new labels and artists almost on a daily basis.

Yep, just too much for me to sift through so a lot of the time I get stuck not liking the trends I am hearing and become a little annoyed with it.

Weird to be in this type of contrast.
