One can say that a lot of today's electronic music is heavily influenced by 1980s.
So, its not a bad thing to listen to the classics. I think they are making a comeback, it is considered cool to be a fan of the 'oldskool' sound. Especially in hip-hop, not much in EDM I suppose.
Even seminal tunes from 1983 dont sound so dated anymore. Just speed them up to a certain BPM, change couple elements and you got a 2010 tune.
1976, The Droids. The first 10 seconds of the track alone was enough to inspire Deadmau5 30 years later.

Theres definitely some good stuff out there, but it requires alot more leg work. I do notice a lack of pounding, thick bass oriented songs though...
