Matt Acton - Kansas (Original Mix) [Progressive Breaks]

Here's an original piece I've been working on, would love to get some feedback before I start sending it out :)

Matt Acton - Kansas (Original Mix) by Matt Acton

It's not been mastered at all, as I will more than likely be making some changes. My aim was to go for a track with a laid back, old-school feel to it. I also challenged myself by only using Abletons built in synths, it was good fun!

Any feedback is appreciated :)

I'm really digging this one. If I'm to pick at it, I'd like a little more prominent bass reflex in the kick(s). Past 5:42, I was looking for the melodic lead to develop some more complexity, but that might be my own personal preference.

There's a very chilled out and deep quality to this that might disqualify it from the genre you've chosen - mind you, it's no less of a track.

For what it's worth, I absolutely love it. Unless my sentiments are echoed, I'd take my feedback with a grain of salt. Nice work.

Cheers for the feedback, glad you liked the track. The melody is pretty simple and I guess adding more complexity after the breakdown could make it more interesting, I might have a further play :)

what the hell are you talking about...

Pretty cool tune, although I didn't really feel that big of an impact. Well produced and props for using only Ableton's native synths.

:conf: (re: "hell" - a little confrontational considering I'm always happy to answer any questions pertaining to this sort of thing)

I thought the tempo (or at least the cadence) was more chilled and laid-back than what I would typically define as progressive. Apart from hashing semantics, It's a bit of a superfluous distinction but still one I felt relevant given the nature of the OP's song.

you sound like a tool. have you even looked into the genre before trying to be an expert about it?

Thanks. It wasn't my intent to make a tune with a big impact, I was going for the more laid-back route.

It was fun working with only the built in synths, it was a good challenge.

Matt I like the instruments but I hate the drums. A taste thing, but when thew snare starts it just reminds me of many a lates 80's snare preset used by people like peter gabriel - fine if you like but for me uber basic and therefore takes away from the rest. When the rest of the drums kick in they sound like something out of soul2soul - those uber generic loops they used to use.

Nice atmosphere and pleasant listening all the same.

I was aiming for an old-school feel, which I'm happy with. But I may have a play to see if I can spice things up.
