Shying Away Remixes by DeepEddieZilker

I've been working on three remixes of this song by Cryophonik and Alicia Angel. Together, the first two don't even add up to my typical 9+ minute length, although I am working on a mix of this song which will. Any feedback you guys have will be greatly appreciated.

two very good remixes Eddie!
The only thing I can suggest is that the first remix (the chill one) is missing an element of intensity. If that makes any sense at all.

the 2nd one I really like, more my style!

Will give these a listen in the morning, chap.

you got the feeling down right with the first one and im guessing you wanted to keep some things in context with the parts you were given.

for me tho i would like to see some more atmospherics so yo can get her voice across tbf to you working with vocals is hard work so well done you :p

On the Eddie zilker remix version :

The vocals sound fuzzy/unclear to me for some reason through my headphones/speakers/earbuds. (listening on fresh ears btw)

Crash sounds distorted at 1:21, although I realize there's alot going on.

The rest of the sparkles and arping on top sounds nice though :)

On the Chill mix :

Vocals sound slightly clearer, but still kinda foggy/cloudy.

I like the sound pallette better on this mix, and it is indeed chill.

Great passive listening experience!

Good sunday morning listening. Ecclectic as ever from you Ed, and can't really fault these apart from the minor taste thang that I don't like that sort of bass sound in track one. I think I prefer 2 but I'm really not sure tbh.:D

The first one sounds solid so far, but it feels to me as if it's in the juvenile stage. I think it's missing a key sound, but I really don't know what. Hmm, I like everything so far, though I'd like it even more if I heard something...organic, perhaps. Maybe some strings would sound good.

I like the second one a lot more. Really fresh stuff here! Great choice of sounds. I may be nitpicking when I say this: the vocals are a little heavy and dominating. It takes my focus away from the nifty synthwork a little. Personal preference, I guess.

Overall, great work as usual from you.

Thanks, guys.

@ BashidoHEAT & Owen: It seems like your critiques fit nicely with one another on the Chill version, so I'll definitely take a look at adding a part. Thanks.

@ Owien: Hrmmm... Are you referring to adding more pads or increasing their volume?

@ Theterran: Thanks for giving them a listen on the ear-buds. I need to take them over to the TV and listen to it, there. I can definitely hear where that crash might distort.

@ Richard: Glad you liked them. I'm kind of partial to the second one, myself. The Chill was my first crack at it and I took the vocals and built a new music bed around them, although I was trying to adhere to the original music bed while doing so. The second has all of Cryophonik's original MIDI work along with what I could put in.

@ Owen: Thanks for the note on the synth work. My whole philosophy with vocals is to try and stay out of their way, as much as possible. Of course, Aliciya makes it very, very easy to put those vocals up front. It was, quite honestly, a real pleasure to be able to work with them.

Eddie - you got me in the corner man - I really like chillout ver but I can't figure out what is missing in there for me to be instant winner ( I'm on it like fifth time and no idea lol). Maybe after whole night listening I will have a better idea.

Second - really nice job, like this aggressive bass line (Yello style) and energy, great FX, lead and pads work - if any recommendation - blend your music and vocal more organically so they sound like one part, one element, complementing each other, just because right now I can hear a small distinction/separation between those two elemants of your mix.

Overall I'm impress - didn't know you got this kind of skills - and you GOT it Eddie.

Cheers

Thank you, very much, TL007. Was definitely hoping you'd like it.

Nice song is begin with, liked the first one more...reminded me of ISOS albums circa 2006~.

The second one i enjoyed less even though it has the potential and i have a feeling that a "less is more" attitude will be more appropriate for it (like commercial tracks) but thats just my opinion.

I gotta say Eddie, i always love your tracks but whenever i focus on the tracks alone and concentrate on the drums\percs i feel like it's not flowing\timed right...never happened to me with any other artist before...

Thanks for the comments and I will take them into consideration. I read this though, and thought it worth exploring. Whatever effect you're hearing isn't what's intended and I'm not really sure if it's something I want to achieve. I went ahead and rendered only the drums out of a section of the song.

Personally, I'm partial to the groove but I can definitely hear that it's got a rhythmic swing to it that might be a little heavy. Regardless, I'm curious if you (or anyone else) could only hear that in conjunction with the rest of the music or if it was something that took place without the contrasting pitched elements.
