i'd rather make you believe i'm lying just out of spite...some of us have better things to do to follow a cat around all day with a video camera and wait for it to ...we don't all have a jimmy to pay our bills for us you know:p

if anyone wants to teach a cat to do this, it is pretty easy. It won't always work, as cats are like humans...some are just smarter and adapt better than others. It only pretty much works if they are kittens, because once they reach a certain age they just do what they know.

week 1.

find a bowl that fits right under the toilet seat and can stay in position once the seat is down.

place the bowl beside the toilet on the floor... filled with litter.

this is the easy part, they should go in the bowl (litter bowl not toilet bowl).

week 2.
every day put a phone book or something to slowly increase the height of the litter bowl keeping it beside the toilet. Be gradual in making the bowl higher, because if you go too fast the cat will just not go for it. If everything still works, move to step 3...if not, it just probably will not work for your cat.

week 3
place the litter bowl under the toilet seat solidly in place. Expect a few accidents (as in missing the bowl and hitting the seat, it is normal but they get better at it.) Once they get used to that, and you see that they are using this method (at least a week needed to get them in the habit) you can remove the litter bowl.

kitty or kitties should by now in the toilet without the bowl.

pro tip: when you are drunk off your ass and go for a night :

1. make sure the litter bowl is not there...i've made the mistake and buttered my ass with my own feces and litter...it looked like some perverted german drumstick ice cream.

2. when the litter bowl is not there, always check just in case for cat nuggets. They do miss, and sitting in while funny is not fun.

ps vids or it didn't happen.

already explained 2 pages ago. :p

So you have 3 cats that use the toilet and the others use litter? How do you stop the toilet users from reverting to litter box use if it's openly available? I ask because when we take our cats to my parents house, who have a cat that uses a litter box, they'll usually use that box if it's available rather than their toilets... I think the natural instinct to dig in sand is stronger, no matter how long they've been using a toilet. Just my opinion though.

they still use the litter too, it just gives them another option.

my cats love the bathroom (turn a faucet on and they go crazy..and the tiles are nice and cool for them to lie on) so even if they do use the litter, they use it a lot less which is nice because it does not take long for 5 cats to make the place smell like a jungle.

It is amazing how much cats like to copy each other. We have to bathe our sphinx at least 3 times a week because the breed can't keep clean on its own. My other cats would never want to be near the bathtub (if we turn on the jets they go into stampede mode)...now that they see the sphinx in it, 2 of them have jumped in during bath time. Siamese are not water cats at all, so it was very surprising.

Good observation. I'd be interested to see that in effect with 6 cats like you have. One thing I noticed that's hilarious with the copy thing- even though my male is neutered, he's still horny all the time and tries to pin down and mount the female. About 6 months ago, I saw the craziest thing happen for the first time: the female copying that behavior, as if she was the male, and trying to climb on the male while he was sleeping and get in the humping position... then she's all confused and doesn't know what to do once she's there. She ends up sliding off to the side and going to sleep after a minute or so like that. lol.

i have 5.

the behaviour you are seeing has nothing to do with mating, but with one cat trying to show dominance over the other.

cats are pack animals...add another 1 or 2 and you will see that a hierarchy will develop, and the least dominant cats will be the one that eats last, washes all the other ones, and a whole bunch of other things that you see with big cats in the wild.

with just 2 cats, the top spot is always up for grabs.
