My sister in law went there with some friends and they said that the surprise dish was just a random choice from the menu. Though I think the "surprise" changes everyday, it's not a special dish. It's almost like if you're indecisive, they'll pick for you. |
I'm sure she was just speculating.
It is indeed a special dish, and definitely not a random choice on the menu. What I had (and I said I was a non-vegetarian (my guest was)) was definitely of another genus of any other meat listed in the menu. So glad I picked it. |

Obviously she couldn't tell for sure for lack of sight, but the dish she had was the same as a dish that a friend of hers ordered.
Glad you enjoyed it though. |

...or that's the chance you take when a blind person brings you your dish... higher chance or her bringing you the wrong dish :D |

There was a table with one loud biotche, who wouldn't shut up. I did throw a noodle in the general direction of her voice, so I hope I set her straight. Nonetheless I felt satisfaction for quieting down that cow. I can imagine the potential for food fights here.

lol this made ginger ale shoot out of my nose
of course she shut up. you fed the cow even more. |

This O.NOIR place sounds like too much work...
What if there was a fire? (I'm sure it would illuminate stuff), but are there lights to turn on in that case to ensure safe exit?
And total total dark? Or just darkish? |

It's not work... the challenge is part of the fun!
...and of course it's all up to code... they have sighted people at the front reception area. This is where you read the menu and select your order. Then they call out your blind server, who then guides you through curtains and doors to your table by holding her shoulder.
I did observerve... or should I say feel... different textures on the floor, so I also assume they use that to guide them and you around.
It's quite amazing how your imagination organizes things on your table. After a while I had no issues finding my beer and utensils at my first attempt at reaching for them. |

Who has been to Ruth's Chris? Is it really as good as people say it is? |
Ruth's Chris is definitely my personal favourite steakhouse in T.O., and I've been to all them numerous times. I really like the way they broil the steak on the plate in butter (in specially designed broilers too!). Although as with any steakhouse, it can be difficult to stay consistent at every visit. But I have always enjoyed every meal there, which is something I can't say for most of the other steakhouse's (especially Morton's). Service is always excellent as well.
Really dying to try out this O.NOIR place now though, that sounds so unique! |

I've never liked the Ruth's Chris. Being attached to the hotel, the clientele was too douchebaggery for me. I kept expecting Kevin Federline to walk in. Steak was ok. Tom Jones and Harbour Sixty are my faves. Best meal I ever had was at Harbour Sixty. |

Harbour Sixty is the only steakhouse I've ever been to who actually made my steak PRECISELY the way I like and described it to them. |
