Mcguinty is going to announce tomorrow that they are scrapping it! Now can they take the Enviro fee they charge on electronics with it, and maybe the HST too?

TORONTO -- The new eco fees are being dumped.

Environment Minister John Gerretsen is expected to announce the change Tuesday morning, reversing course after two weeks of controversy.

"The waste diversion program will continue, however, the government will be looking at solutions to the concerns heard from Ontarians about the program that would ensure household hazardous waste continues to be diverted from our landfills, while ensuring that Ontario consumers are protected," a government source says.

Yes I thought it was just Canadian Tire that wasn't going to charge it...

Good news but I think the stupid HST is here for good...

I just hope we get Hudak in next year. We need to clean up the mess.

Im willing to bet that hudak will campaign on removing the HST from services and items that werent subject to it before the tax came in. From my understanding, the HST cannot be lowered till 2015 and cannot be scrapped, but items can be delisted. In essence he could scrap it by delisting, i am assuming that something like this will be his platform.

The Fiberals knew the eco fee was giving the opposition some good organizing power so they had no choice but to scrap it. And honestly, the HST would have been the same way if people freaked out enough.

You know I've been thinking for a while the HST has been a much talked about hated tax for well over a year, yet this eco fee comes in at the same time and completly diverts peoples anger from the HST to the eco fee. I really wonder if this wasnt part of a bigger plan to shut ppl up about the HST.....

The eco fee is only going to be scrapped for a short period until they work out the kinks....don't think for a second that this fee will not be back.

You'd figure if that were the case he'd be answering with hints of that when asked about changing it rather then trying to avoid answering, no? I imagine it's more likely he's run on lowering it a point but keeping the larger breadth of taxable items (as it will generate more revenue that way then scaleing it back in terms of scope). I don't want to sound too cynical here but politcians rank election/re-election high on their list of priorities; history shows the person that is in charge when economies recover, especially if they're able to clean up the mess, do well in elections. The economy in Ontario is already well on it's way to recovery, the next premier (be it Timmy or Daddy) will need high tax revenue to be able to show real progress to cleaning up the deficit before the next election; subsequently, it would be in Timmy's interest to take the populist position of lowering the much hated tax but keeping the revenue as high as he can.

What a farce. I didn't even know they were tacking that on.

I'm calling my MPP again, and demand they get Dalton out again. These screwups are growing by the day.

What about the $60 new Car Tax here in the GTA only!!!!

I think that should be scrapped as well, no one else is paying it, except the GTA.

This new HST, Eco Fee, and Car Tax is Ludacris!!!!!
