At age 20, there is an agonizing wall, which stands between me and any chance of visiting my home-country, Russia.

What if I actually decide to buy a ticket and grab my passport, while calling a taxi, and scheduling a $400 trip to the airport?

Yea...If I do arrive in Russia, I might be kidnapped by their ing army.

I am planning a trip to Russia this summer. Hopefully, I can find a way to communicate with their personnel, and perhaps get a warrant of some sort.

Sweet America, oh how sweet you taste.

If you say you're gay can you avoid getting dragged into the army? It works here in the U.S.

I had double citizenship. I live in Canada, but i'm from South Korea. There's a conscription going there. Each men at the age of 18 are to be deployed and trainned in the army.

Before visiting my old country, i went to the Korean Embassy in Montreal to cancel and nullify my Korean citizenship.

No squad was waiting for me once i arrived in Incheon. GGKTHXBAI!

Interesting dilemma. My wife refuses to go back to Uzbekistan until she gets her citizenship here (hopefully by October) for similar reasons. Even though we are married, even though she has all legitimate travel docs, a green card/permanent resident card, and an approved visa to enter their country, they can still tell her at the airport, "You're here, you have an Uzbek passport, therefore we don't give a about your United States documents. You belong to this country and are subject to our laws. Now pay us $10,000 if you want to get back on your return flight."

People may think I'm exaggerating but I'm not- they are that ing corrupt over there, and this very thing happened to one of her friends that moved to Scotland and went back home to visit her family.

No U.S. passport = no travel to the former Soviet states for us.

i have dual-citizenship with austria and, as i've been planning on spending some time there, the conversation came up. my dad thought i'd have to do the necessary service but it turns out that, until i've been living in the country for a period greater than 6 months it's really not an issue at all. so that's nice.
