HA, i just noticed... isn't that one of the Rank 1 guys driving the cab in the video?
You really can't expect someone to keep making the same music over and over again. It's a career for them, they are music producers.
I think the fans make artists out to be these "pillars of the underground" that many of them never even intended to be. Everyone starts out underground, and once they get more popular, and more skilled, they're going to get better offers.
If Armin and Tiesto made a main-room-trance-banger out of every track they touched, everyone would bitch and moan that all their is the same.
If they hear something they like and want to try something new, they're called a sellout.
Man it's hard being on top haha.

I personally believe that if you do it underground for long enough, establish that you have mad skills, then you ing deserve to sell out and get your MONSTROUS pay day. I mean ...
are these guys supposed to not max out their earning potential just because some prima donna music snobs might get offended? get over yourselves.
i used to think like you until I realized that being a hater is not the way to go. If a song makes someone, anyone, happy. makes them shout out the sunroof and smile like CHEEEEESSEE!! then who are we to say it's crap.

Yes and no... I think Tiesto featuring Jonsi on "Kaleidoscope" was a great example of trying something new with someone completely outside the EDM bubble. I think that song's great to be honest! It's musically different and pushes some boundaries, uses the voice as an instrument, etc. Unfortunately, these "experimental" collaborations aren't always that well-thought out. Tiesto's upcoming productions with Britney Spears and Jay-Z (both confirmed) aren't going to be good, you and I both know this. He's not going to be breaking any musical barriers, and it sure as hell is not a collaboration that resulted from some overload of artistic integrity or experimentation. They're all selling out and trying to make a buck. Can't hate on them for THAT, so to speak, but when there's a discussion about electronic music, what's legit, what's good, what's bad, we also shouldn't be expected to put them on a pedestal or praise them either.

Similarly, on the other side of things, if all the people that complained about Tiesto and Armin channel that energy into supporting and discovering new artists, they'd be doing more to help the scene. If we all didn't give Tiesto "one more chance" to wow us at the $70-a-ticket concert, but went to see Activa, or Jon O'Bir, or Schossow & Breakfast, or M.I.K.E., or any of the upcoming guys that are coming to the city, imagine the difference that would make, in the eyes of the promoters, and the bookings club lineups that come as a result.

i understand with what your tryin to say and i agree, they can make other styles of music....BUT
to me broken tonight and all those other cheesey vocals and catchy hook songs are not trance!!!!! but yet for some strange reason armin still thinks they are :conf:
if he were to promote them as pop or euro dance (which they are) i wouldnt have a problem, but for him to say they are trance is exactly what he's talkin about in that video about dj sammy "it's not trance" ok armin just like broken tonight and dj sammy songs... THAT IS NOT TRANCE
sorry for ranting but when he promotes tracks like that as trance, all the noobs think its trance and the trend continues etc etc etc
