Deep Eddie Zilker - Suzanne's Theme - 320 fin by DeepEddieZilker

New master, now with more bass, although it might need a rework to get what it really needs.

This is a tune off my album, The Domino Project. It's done, apart from some possible mastering adjustments, but feel free to critique it.

Definitely liked the bit at 7:12, and the subsequent build up into 9:00. Good energy and sound selection.

Me likes the instrument selection overall.

Soundcloud trashed the living hell out of your track btw, but I'm sure you know this. I noticed that some people still review tracks w/out downloading...and the soundcloud version sounds more monophonic/cluttered on top of the quality loss.

Reminds me that I need to open my tracks up for download for people to review...although the latest ones don't seem to have as much issue as when I first started....

Breakdown at 12:00 to the ending is sweet.

Lastly, I'm not familiar with your genre...what would you call what you produce?

Anyway, honest 2 cents and such :)

hey mate
: )
what kind of music its these? trance? breaks?

well ho cares

its good mate, the best thing you got here, its how the track evolvs
but for me, needs more ambient , a Stronger kick and snare
also the perclines need a lot more work

but yeah like i said, the evolution of the track its pretty good ;)

The weird thing is, the spectrum analysis shows more bass than my normal work - but that's only measuring peaks and not the residuals. I'm also getting a ton of bass response on my system. I think I may have made a creative mistake using short decay on the kicks and a staccato bass-line under the lead but I was trying to build a really dense pattern with it.

Regardless, thanks for the feedback. I'll take another listen to the master and see if adding some more low-end helps, in a bit. :)

@ theterran: Thanks for down-loading and the kudos. Today, I definitely noticed what you're talking about. Kind of brutal - even listening on the page. Break Beat is my chosen genre in general but I'd qualify this under break trance if I had to get more specific.

I always love listening to what you come up with.

You have a stunning knack of not fitting in, which I admire.

The track seems at first to plod along but there's always something new coming along and with well chosen and interesting sounds too. It's a cliche but it's a bit of a journey.

The mix could use some improvement but I don't think it's a specific issue, more of an overall polish.

I may have asked this before, but what is your monitoring setup?

Thanks a ton. I'm definitely going to take another crack at the master, on Sunday.

My monitoring setup consists of Altec Lansing computer speakers and MDR-700's. The Altecs are surprisingly accurate and hearty (they've taken their share of abusive frequencies and volumes) considering they're definitely not what I use them for but I'd still rather be running actual pro-monitors, at this point.

Ah right yeah.

There's always 'something' missing from the mix but without a proper monitoring setup this is as good as it gets I reckon, and that's meant as a compliment :p

You owe yourself some monitors ;)

The proper monitoring setup is actually at the top spot of my 'to get' list. It's actually very frustrating but I'm hoping that having to contend with less will actually help me be more proficient once I get them.

I would say, nope ;)

Perhaps the opposite, I think you're holding yourself back. PM Anakratis/Darek and see what they think :p

Leave my self-comforting, narrative mythology, justifying my inability to acquire new speakers, ALONE!!! 9# ;)

I put up a new master. It might have too much bass (hopefully not) but if it still doesn't have enough, I suspect it will take a rework.

You'll be waiting for it until I get new speakers, though. :p

EDIT: Oh, perhaps it's been said, enough, but I really appreciate the honesty of the comments.
