So I entered in a local DJ competition....

i've never entered in one before, i have 15 mins to wow the crowd and judges, winner gets a roster slot on the new big name production team in town

my plan is to put my production background into use and do up my own edits and mashups and also produce up a new dj intro and outro with effects and my name

what i'm looking for is some cool acapellas or some suggestions to make my set stand out even more

i'll be playing clubby electro stuff, 132-135 bpm range

don't really venture much into electro so I can't help you there, but since the dj booth only has a small handful of active people, why don't you try posting this in music discussion as well?

(not making this a "omg wrong forum" reply, just thinking you'd more opinions there than here)

in any case, good luck man!

i'm pretty confident on this one, as long as i don't draw a bad timeslot, there is maybe one or 2 djs on the bill that i'm concerned about

really, it's the mashup i want to do... perhaps i should consult the production forum

I don't see how this belongs in here. Are you asking for accappellas to use? Suggestions for tunes to mash up? Use of DJ FX to add some spice?

This is all DJ related really. Not sure where the production comes in.

EDIT:

I see you mentioned producing your own intro and outro...you'll need to be a bit more specific to what you want to achieve unless you asking for someone to show you how to make an intro/outro

i was seeing if anyone had a suggestion for an acapella to layer over the beat of said track, i'm trying some out myself, but if anyone has any input, it would be appreciated since i'm on a short deadline

dj competitions are always a bad idea. Popularity determines the winner and if you lose , well its better not to partake in those amateur nights much less lose in one. Just by signing up, you've established that you are an amateur and that you are desperate. There are ways to get ahead but competitions where the winner is the guy that plays the most popular track is not really the smartest way.

uhhh...no. Sorry, not everyone is as popular as you. He's just trying to find ways to get his name out there.

Good luck BTW! Hope you blast the crowd with your amazing-ness :D

well these competitions are not the way to do it.

you're probably right. i wouldn't know, i don't really dj :D

i mean sure this could work. i guess it all depends on what you're looking for...

it doesn't work. People do this as a cheap way to get free entertainment and hope that all their friends will come to cheer. Same thing as battle of the bands. Tony Morello has had residencies before if i'm not mistaken. He is really lowering himself to the status of noob by taking part in this competition.
