And yes I was thinking a breaks mix would be good Matt. Would love to hear you give it a shot. I get the party Friday so if you're interested let me know and I'll fire them over. |
Definitely ;) |

| Ambient breaks. I can totally feel it, something like Icehouse - Don't Believe Anymore (Ivan Gough & Colin Snape Remix). The pad in Piledriver just flows, I think taking the ambient route would really make that flow shine. |

Assuming you're getting several remixes going, I'd probably go for one sophisticated proggy breaks remix, one straight forward prog trance ASOT type thing, one very bangy electro remix and one slightly more minimal tech house remix... That would cover most genres well IMO.
I'd be keen for a crack at it, mine would probably be more on the techy side... |

Fair play in getting the rights to this. To be fair this track was soooo huge at the time, so I agree its one of those tracks that cant be beat with a remix in the same genre.
Breaks is a good call. That said go with what ever works man same genre different genre, what ever. Its going to get alot of attention when released with remixes so it has to be the bomb, no excuses lol, people will be taking note of the remixers so your time to shine, no pressure ;P. Good luck. |

| trying to nail the patch for the melody pad-like sound you hear start at the very beginning of the grayed out summer mix. Trying to get it nailed down in my Virus and having a bit of trouble. |

Some sort of phased saw pad thing....pattern follows the bassline, lots of release. Maybe 2 pads going one that distinct pattern another supporting?
Goodluck Stephen! |

Ambient - I'm ignorant on it - but does anyone buy it apart from yoga teachers? I say this because you've gone to great legnths to remix this so it would be worth making an impact maybe?
Breakbeat - I don't know anyone who's into it - maybe it's popular outside the UK? My personal taste takes me away from breakbeat.
I'd say do a 4/4 progressive version. |

Try stepping out of your little bubble of trance and progressive and you'd realise that both breaks and ambient are strong genres around the world.
The problem with remixing in a genre that is similar to the original is that it will never compare and this will end up as another pointless remix package of a classic that never should have been touched in the 1st place. |

Agreed, unless you are world class then remixing in the same genre will have to be some remix. Thats not to say not to try it, as you may have a great idea that could work. Maybe try a few different versions. You know Oakie will be interested in this one. |
