Am I the only one who couldn't get into The Wire?
The first season was pretty slow, I gave up on it then picked it back up a year later and it turned out to be one of my favorite shows ever. It took some investment at first though.

Ohhhh the other B city. Um. It sucks. Like Burlington, VT sucks, but in a nasty ghetto I'ma get shanked way.
I live just outside of Burlington. It's cool, people describe it as a smaller version of Portland, OR. I'd go nuts if Montreal wasn't only 90 mins away though.

TBH I pulled the Burlington reference right out of thin air.... :p

I lived there for about 7 years. I actually miss it. Federal Hill was my favorite part along with little italy and greenmount. Weirdest thing I remember was that you would have one block being pure ghetto, then you literally go one street over and are in the middle of nice brownstones and bmw's. John Hopkins is in an area like that.
I think the city really made a mistake on the slogan 'the city that reads' they weren't really setting the bar that high with that one.

most of my first impressions of baltimore have already been mentioned:
-heroin
-michael phelps
-johns hopkins
-gunshots
-crabs
my sister has lived in baltimore the last 10 years so i have been there quite a few times. despite the negative connotation of the things i mentioned above, i have had a spectacularly good time every time i have gone there. i saw some breaks djs (can't remember who) there in 2003 and it was really good, at some old bank venue.

god where to start.ive lived here 20 years and have lived in many cities and states and this is the worst place ive ever lived.
and to answer some peoples questions, yes maryland was number one in heroin addiction.also they were number one in gonorrhea.and at one time number one in teen pregnancy.thats the one thing about maryland, they strive to be number one at something ignorant.
ill just rattle off a long line here:
murder rate is insane here.drug addiction is out of control.companies are taxed here so hard they have left maryland to to go to the surrounding states that offer them tax breaks leaving behind empty industrial areas, and in turn no new companys will come here because of the taxes.the city is absolutely filthy.people are such bad drivers here that we have some of the highest insurance premiums of any state.the police and local government is so corrupt that it makes detroits cops and politicians look like saints.the waters are so polluted the fish and crabs are dying.
and the people that lived here all their lives?they love the fact their state is a total wasteland.they defend it and dont see anything wrong with this state.dont get me started on the people here anyway.some of the most ignorant and uneducated people i have ever seen.and they are proud of it.
and the nightlife here is pathetic.as a dj i dont even have time to go into how bad music is out here.
theres a reason why some of the many slogans here about this state are bad: "harm city","murderland","the city that bleeds" you get the idea.
so theres my take for you.aint this place great?!!

Personally, I like Baltimore. I think it's an example of superior social planning. If you're going to have crackheads and heroin addicts anyway then you might as well gather them all in one place, as to minimize their impact on the rest of society. Maryland has done exactly this in Baltimore thereby helping to clean up Washington and to a lesser extend Phylidelphia. Good on you Baltimore! Way to take one for the team!
