The Visual Aspect: Music is more than you hear, by Fjern/Rognalf (pg. 3)

Here's an example of something that came to pass like that (independently of your articles, which I still haven't read -sorry!) :)
The track is called Redeye, and it's about the experience of, instead of going to bed, going to the airport and taking the night flight.
See if you can spot the drive to the airport, looking out of the taxi window; boarding the plane with a bit of a worry; taking off :)

You guys are making EDM, not therapeutic tools to help people with plane phobias get to the airport. All you articles read like those woman magazines that just state things everyone already knows or has thought about. Did you know, your man
Ives it when you play naughty ? Ya didn't really enjoy any of the articles. You need to tie it to actual musical examples or something. |

I've struggled to create edm to a story / visual narrative, apart from techno where it's easy when it's all dark n .
The fjern guy makes incredible music for gaming imo - check it out Looney, even you will be impressed.

I enjoy producing to a narrative and visuals but so far I have not applied this to a dance track outside of the techno genre. |
Thanks, Richard! Yes, I can tell that you do. I especially enjoyed the techno tale of the cave dwellers.
I would love to hear this stuff applied to more dance music. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but Live at Goliath 6's sci-fi theme and hard trance music really got my imagination going, back in 2000: http://www.discogs.com/DJ-Phrenetic.../release/212916

You should definitely read the articles; I think you'd find them very interesting. I enjoyed hearing such a non-dance-music-theme in an EDM tune. I think it makes it much more interesting.

Haha, brilliant! :D Well firstly, I view sound as an abstract way to communicate, describe, engage, connect and so much more, kind of like painting, or any other artform basically. These are the things I want to see more of, rather than unimaginative "how to make a trance pluck" tutorials.
Fair enough, EDM's primary goal is to make people move, and the technical aspects are indeed important, but there's no reason not to make it more imaginative and meaningful for both producers and listeners. Back in primal times with just drums for example, the dance music had a divine purpose - now it's just "how to make 128 bpm prog house".
I agree that some musical examples would be helpful, but what I write about is quite general and non-specific. I prefer it to be completely up to each individual what to make of it. If you have any specific advice, that would be helpful.
And I disagree that these are things everyone knows. In my own case, and from several others, the articles have been like a revelation, and I constantly learn new things about how creativity works.

By the way, Owsey who originally posted this topic has been immensly successful! He had maybe 100 SoundCloud followers back then, and now he's signed to Warner! |

No !? That's awesome, and I've always been a big Owsey fan.
Before he went mainstream. |

I agree with you. Sound is all about representation of something that already exists.
Imagination to me isn't creating something out of nothing, but creating something using everything which is around us already.
Trance music imo is all about mimicking movements of existing entities or organisms. But everyone has a different method, so experiment..
Everything loops, the sun, earth, seasons, days, animals, even us with our daily routines. :tongue2
The possibility of representation is endless. |
This subject is getting too deep for me now. |

but that is just the thing. By having a program, you've made your music distinctly non abstract. And i would say it is much simpler and less of a challenge to invoke images over the actual abstract ie emotions.
and if Owsey is signed with WB, he might want to not sell his stuff on bandcamp. Kind of a breach of contract right there |

people have been doing this for hundreds of years.
From Beethoven capturing bird calls and thunderstorm in his pastoral symphony, to the sort of soundtrack in cartoons that people would call mickey mousing. The articles just go into very little detail, and read more like a , hmmm i feel this. Which would be insightful if he was someone important and influential. |
