I'm not being literal. But drone ambient is by far the easiest style to produce and get credible, pleasant sounds from. Now it's been shown you can simply time-stretch a pop record and make a brilliant drone ambient track, perhaps people will stop showering the genre with praise.

Everything seems brilliant when anti-depressants kick in. Find yourself staring at your hand in marvel recently?
sounds like an ambient version of PVD - Nothing But You at a couple parts

Dude, don't mix anti-depressants with street drugs until you've got a firm grip on reality first.

Not because of how it sounded on its own. If nobody knew how it was made, most wouldn't care and it wouldn't be this popular
There will be better sounding songs
I know that. You're missing my point. Obviously this isn't so popular just because of its intrinsic properties. 35 minute ambient drones are never popular. It's a niche style.
However, if you posted this as an original track without telling people of its origin, it would stand up as a very good drone ambient piece. You can do it with other tracks too - I've tried the program out on a couple of tracks - and you get the same results. I could probably about with a few tracks using the program, maybe layer a couple of things that are in key, make an album and send it to a label or post it amongst drone fans and they'd probably think it was the real thing. For all intents and purposes, it is. Drone ambient is an incredibly simple and easy genre to make, and yet it guarentees very nice, enveloping and tasteful sounds. Put it this way: how many outright bad drone ambient records have you heard?

Really? It's been pretty trendy in the last few years. Also known as "laptop ambient" or "hipster-chill" (okay, possibly not):
