i've had this topic on my mind for a long time now, i constantly think about things that we will get to see in our lifetime and things that should be already available to us but are for some reason suppressed and kept uknown by scientists and politicians (possibly). I've decided to create a list of things that could potentially be invented the near future and also in the distant future as well with approximate time frames. A lot of these may sound ridiculous so comment and say why it could be impossible to achieve.
1. Flying cars - every single day driving home i think about this, why on earth do we not have this already in place? when i say flying cars i do not mean cars that look like airplanes, i think about something along the lines of fifth element movie car.
the only problem i could think of is how the traffic will be directed because in the air it would be difficult to create special infrastructure to show the traffic signs, lights, turns etc. It would work out if we would fly id say a little above the height of trees and buildings, just enough to avoid any type of obstacle. To know where to go we would use built in computer with a GPS that would guide you to the location with a massive projector that would draw the path out for you and tell you where to go. To land you would go right above the parking spot and lower yourself down at a 90 degree angle slowly to the spot. While i know it is impossible to have this right now i do think that this will be in place in about 200-500years years.
2. Using water as fuel - i have seen this already in place where the inventors created a special type of engine that uses hydrogen from water and use it as fuel, It could run cars, planes, generators and many other types of machinery the same way gas does now. As we know in reality until all the oil in the world runs out oil companies won't allow something like this take over the industry. 3 of the richest countries in the world run this whole game so i would say although it should be already used now we will only get to see this used maybe about 80-100years from now.
there are actually many websites dedicated to this, 1 is http://www.waterforfuel.com/
3. No Sleep - I have discussed this topic with many people in the past, on TA and outside of TA and i get various feedback from this. I do have a feeling that in the distant future humans would be able to not have to sleep or maybe sleep 1-3 hours at most. The way this could be achieved is by inventing some type of a pill that we could take before we take a nap that would somehow mimic the persons 7 hour sleep during that short period of time. I do understand that it is very hard to recreate as we go through various phases during our sleep where our body recovers mentally and physically + much more. There is one particular phase which is most important during our sleep which i believe last about 3 hours (REM sleep?), if scientists could somehow push the body into a fast mode during sleep to have it recover faster than we do now we would be able to naturally wake up earlier. Ii do have a feeling that it will be possibly achievable in maybe next 2000 years.
4. Incubation of babies - Throughout the evolution humans had sex in order to procreate and have kids and continue their race as it is build in our dna to do that but as we all know it, more, if not all people nowadays have sex just for the sake of enjoyment and personal satisfaction + procreation. What i do think will change is that in the far future women would not have to go through the phase of pregnancy but will just use their egg and partners sperm and have them both deposited into special clinic that will incubate the baby for them in the specially created tubes. A lot of these things are already happening but most of the time are done through a surrogate or when the baby is born prematurely but what i'm thinking about is completely mimicking mothers womb from the first day of fertilization. I'd say this could be possible in the next 200 years.
5. Termination of meat production - Many vegetarians would probably support me on this one. I'm not a vegetarian and i do eat meat all the time but i do think that in the far future humans would not have kill animals and consume meat as we do today. We could in someway replace meat, i know it is done today but i'm talking about change on a mass scale. When i walk into a grocery store and i look at the meat section I always get a slight shiver, how many animals were killed for this? i always imagine a huge factory with thousands of humans being suspended by a metal wire on their neck slowly moving down where in the end the neck meet a huge knife that completely chops of the head one after the other. Again im not a vegetarian but I do feel like in the distant future we will come to realization that we are in fact executing slaughter that is almost the same as killing thousands or millions of humans. I haven't touched the subject that could be debatable as well which is the red meat production, I've read numerous sources and they state that red meat is actually harmful to consume long term as it may cause cancer, stroke, heart disease etc. I say this has potential to happen in about 800-1000years, maybe more.
6. Wireless wiring and electricity - I do not know if it is possible or not as i'm not a scientist but i do have a feeling that this will somehow be possible in about 5000 years by using the existing technology we have in place today for sending radio wave signals. It could be potentially improved to the point where we would be able to send electric signals to all the devices without having to use wiring at all. I don't know how that will affect our overall health and how some or all devices will interact this way but i do feel like that massive movement towards wireless technology that we already have in place now and that is improving quite rapidly.
I'm sure there are many more things worth mentioning but these are some of bigger ones i thought of, if you guys feel like contributing please do as i'm interested in hearing what you have to say about this topic. Thanks :)
ps. holy , it took me a while to write this..

Every time I go to CZ I see several people push themselves into REM sleep. This is and has been achievable for years, yet I doubt there is a safe way to reach REM.

Directing traffic won't be such a problem by the time we have flying cars simply because the on-board computer will do all the driving/flying for us. They're already working with prototypes like this in different parts of the world, so in another 5-7 years the technology should be perfected and ready for real world applications. Cars are already parking themselves. Cars that drive themselves are in the not-so distant future.
Personally, whenever I'm stuck in traffic I dream about rocket launchers attached to cars. One day...one day... :(

I don't think water as fuel will come about simply because we'll discover better alternatives to it.

I think humans will evolve beyond their physical bodies within 2000 years, to be honest.

I believe eventually meat will become a delicacy for most people in the world. Given how the population is growing, the planet simply can't sustain raising livestock to meet future demand.
I highly doubt water will be used as fuel because it will eventually be needed for drinking/nourishment/hydration (see growing population point above). A water crisis in the broader world is inevitable I think.

Wireless electricity has been done already by Tesla in early 1900s but was suppressed by JP Morgan as he pulled R&D funding from Tesla for further development because "It would be impossible to meter wireless electricity".
Water engines have been done multiple times since late 60s but have been repeatedly suppressed and bought out by oil companies. U.S patent bureau has a bunch of those patents.
I really like the idea of no sleep but with our bodies will not be able to hold it for too long, even with a help of a pill. As an alternative i prefer to think about longer lifespan, if people can live longer at higher elevations then i believe every human can do so too at lower as long as we follow special diet and meditate and exercise.
termination of meat production - unlikely. But growing specific types of meat (say chicken breasts only) very possible although its up for a lot of ethical debate ( that is unless human population explodes say to 15 billion)
nice topic

would love to see this! but sadly most people cant even handle a terrestrial vehicle. So it would have to be completely automated and what fun would that be? But yeah definitely as an option it would be cool, a replacement, maybe not so much.

i am a firm believer in the idea that the oil companies are suppressing alternate forms of fuel. Look at the electric car fiasco as a good example. And its not just about oil. The car companies make a lot more money off of breaking parts for a gas powered engine.

even if this were possible its not for me. Its not natural. We sleep for a reason. Pills should never replace sleep.

again no thanks. Except in cases where women cant have kids, this again is a natural process for a reason.

its already possible for humans to not eat meat. We do so because we enjoy it and it does have health benefits. Why would anyone want to eat something completely synthetic anyways? As for killing animals, again this is nature. Its how species survive. Its called the food chain. No different than how a bear will maul and eat a human.

this already bothers me now. The electromagnetic pollution in the air is already contributing to cancer. Just wait till the wifi feedback comes in. If anything we should be investing in more fibreoptics and buried cable. Its faster, safer and more reliable especially if its a huge unbreakable network.

awesome ideas but im always weary when we try to play god or mother nature. somethings like how we treat our bodies should just be left to natural ways. Whereas things like flying cars etc are awesome ideas and those are the type of things that would fully benefit society.

I was having a family dinner at my brother's last week. His finance's step dad was telling us about how these guys at Harvard have already made a flying car.
