i rather have everything build into the screen. are any other brands doing that yet? i want to see more of those all-in-one things. in three years what do you really want to replace or expand? just get a new one instead. thats what we do at work. once uve had the computer for three years, whether or not it is functioning anymore, it is replaced by a new and better one. computers are like car-tires, should be replaced often.

It seems the Imac 27 is about as powerful as the quad core mac pro. Not sure how this would translate to audio processing but still. In fact the quad core is about the same speed as the older generation 8 cores that sold for a bit more.

That's what i've been banging on about for ages. The imacs are the best bang for buck at the moment.

Personally, I expect 4-5 year from a computer. 3 is a little extravagant and wasteful but that's what happens when everything is government supplied ;)

And I don't think bluray is going to happen on the imac. Steve Jobs hates the format and thinks it's a trend that will pass.

Hp do all in one computers too but they suck - no one has been able to compete with the imacs to date.

Imagine 2 imac 27s next to each other ! Now that would be nice. My only concern is the hardrive space. I will probably max the ram at 16 but the lack of hardrive options is limiting. I think maybe your idea of getting an SSD for the OS and 2 GB for essential samples that I use for every project.

Two would be ing great, especially if they are noded together. Slap an SSD in the master machine and that setup would fly. Don't forget you can actually remove the optical driver in the master and replace it with another sata drive, so that would mean 1 x ssd, 1 x 2tb drive, and another 2tb in the optical bay.....and that's even before getting in to the other machine which could have 2 x 2tb networked drives. that would mean 8TB of storage, before even getting in to the 2 x external FW800 drives (one for each machine) which are perfectly fine to use for samples and backups.

Mmmmm. Now that would be nice.

would that work dual screen? or would one be dead? id love two 21" imacs.

Yes, you can do that. I've run two imacs at the same time to share the screen. The tricky bit is going to if you can run logic nodes.

In theory it should be fine, as you're using the second imac as a computer being controlled by the first, and logic doesn't care as long as it has acess to the CPU (it's not file sharing as such, just CPU offloading).

So the short answer is yes, but let me do some research on it before going out and buying anything.

i've been thinking about an pcie card but I suppose that is something I can put in my current computer. I'm thinking of either the rme one or the Symphony by apogee.

Symphony is very nice. Tiny bit of the "apogee sound" in there but very nice indeed and damn solid. Actually the lowest latency I've ever seen on a system (2ms) for true multitrack (don' believe the 1ms claims, it gets funky over 16 tracks). Actually now works with PTHD too.

RME are so damn clear and you can pick them up for really cheap these days (in relative terms). Great cards.

If you've really got the coin, then go mytek or lynx aurora.

TBH, any of these are great. I'd probably lean toward the Aurora for quality, symphony for track count and latency (in now how concert performers get with their latency ;) ) and RME is you just want great conversion for a good price.

After that it's just down what I/O you need.

no inputs really. Just a guitar or microphone.I just really need low latency and stability. I would love a latency below 5 ms. I am used to playing on grand pianos where the action is extremely quick and the latency really bothers me. OF course i'm running at a buffer of 256 right now due cpu issues but would love to get things down as low as possible with no cpu spikes. In fact maybe I will just buy a new sound card. Right now i have the apogee ensemble which has as firewire connection.

I would of thought the pciex cards would have lower latency, more bandwidth and just more stability in general. What about the lynx AES16e. It is rather cheap.

It is rather strange how few pcix audio cards there are. Any idea why ? I remember being able to control the timing on pci buss but perhaps this isn't possible with pciex and the graphics card will hog the resources.

I also operate at 24 bit 48 khz. I'm actually thinking a better soundcard might solve my cpu issues. It isn't like a need alot. Just a little boost. For some reason , i feel like firewire isnt as efficient as pci express.

man this is stressing me out. I'm getting 10 gs in one week and I don't want to make stupid purchases. Not to mention my girlfriend paying back the loan I gave her so 16 thousand of disposable income. I dont want to go ape tho as i've learnt that lesson many times. I will probably give my parents half to invest and spend the rest.

you could try Echo Mia, balanced stereo in/out, midi in/out, spdif in/out, PCIe. And get a mic amp on the input. www.echoaudio.com

Mad for Brad
echo mia ? lol
Kenny Rogers
werent you looking for a simple pci express soundcard?
