Theres never enough rocks. Rocks are awesome, they can be used in so, so many ways that if anything there is a shortage of quality rocks for everyday use. Heres the way that goes. The private sector rock smashing companies hire a new man in marketing (new jobs!), he in turn rebrands their product to something more upscale...from just rocks its...homemade rocks (americans like to hear that something is homemade, brings to mind soothing images of grandmothers cooking something not angry psychopaths playing marbles with eyeballs of their still screaming victims), premium rocks, made with care and tradition in a family business since xxxx. Also come up with some sort of a catch, a gimmick that will reall sell the now ridiculously overpriced rocks. Like putting them trough a old fashioned water mill to smoothen them out. These are not just some old jagged prisoner made rocks anymore, they are crafted, smooth pieces of art that are even due to their smoothness and lack of sharp edges, dare i say it; Good for the Children! (Rich conservative types love to hear this as well). Now if their man in marketing has done a good job, a couple of hundred percent price increase shoudnt worry the rich snobs too much, they will love to buy these, and LOTS of these to fill up their national park sized backyards and rock gardens. Rich people have pretty rocks to look at, Barney Rubble is now mr. Rubble CEO of Rocks-R-Us Inc. and he put an order for a solid rock ferrari just to complement his shiny red real one that he could now afford. Upper middle class will get in it as well if they want to feel a bit posh, sure the sensible man in them is telling them that the standard rocks are almost just as good and are by far the most rational choice. But then again, so was that beige diesel Volvo AWD estate they were seriously considering for the family car before they realised that they are standing in front of a BMW dealership with the keys to a shiny, new, white 400Hp, RWD coupe with tinted windows and a sports package. Sometimes you just got to take a leap and fay the rational choice, this is what i want. And the shiny rocks will be what they want since theyll be the envy of all the suburbs who went for the volvos and ordinary rocks instead of with their heart.
The ordinary, prisoner made rocks will still have a large enough market (basicaly everybody below upper middle class) that the prisoners will earn their upkeep so that the government doesnt have to spend a dime on their sorry asses and hey, since the market is large enough theres a large chance for a surplus as well that could be spent on so many things. Perhaps even a tax cut (republicans love those), but not for the upper class (this is where republicans stop liking it :p ) but for everyone that bought regular rocks so that someday, perhaps, they will be able to buy posh rocks as well.
