It's an advertising strategy to get you to pay attention to them, is it not? It's done on purpose. That's also why you'll see the same commercial back to back sometimes. If you ignored it the first time, you're going to at least go "hey, wasn't that commercial just on?", and actually take notice the second time around.

Their dish was installed by amateurs. I used to do instalations during the DirecTV heyday, and never had any problem getting 90% for anyone in the GTA, 75% were in the high-90s. Even trees didn't matter much with strong signals like these.

lol i did the same installs back then. i also did some for the dishnet years following the directv era. anything over 80% was pretty much golden.

Yeah, I assume it's to grab your attention and wake you up from being zoned into the show...

I'm aware that commercials are always louder, but this was WAY louder! Even when I called Bell about it they said it was just because it was a new install and the the volumes would level out, but it never did. Even the volume from channel to channel was all over, and I don't mean a little bit. I'm pretty easing going but I couldn't stand having to ride the remote volume all the time...

not sure about bell receivers, but all motorola ones at least have an audio compression setting. set it to "heavy" and the sound will even out quite a bit.

I have heard horror stories about Bell and their cable services. Bell periodically sets up in our party room in the condo and offers amazing deals to the residents that live here, but one lady on the elevator after talking to them said to my other half and I... "DON'T DO IT!!"

She said the deals are fantastic and everything is all dandy until you get their service and realize how horrible it really is. I have been with Rogers for what feels like a million years and honestly, I don't think I would ever switch. They definitely always fix my problem and then some when I call and they are quick about it too and when they say it will be fixed on the next bill, it generally is.

I just called them and got a sweet deal through retention for digital VIP and TMN at 20% off for the next year so it is like 66$ a month, plus a free PVR for a year. I'm content :)

if the satellite dish was installed properly then they should only lose signal during poor weather conditions. ask them to check if the mast (the pole where the dish is mounted) is fully secured with anchors to the wall. also check if any of the bolts/nuts that adjust the the dish elevation and azimuth are tight. also check if the LNB is secured properly to the arm.

Given poor weather conditions, I'd prefer to have Rogers then, would I not?

I dunno, not much of a TV guy anyway. I DO know that cable internet beats the hell out of Bell, and that's enough for me to make the call to go with Rogers.

i love watching tv but the only way i would go with satellite is if i was getting it "free". otherwise, i would pick the local cable company.

bell's tv service is crap

they broadcast everything at 720p to save bandwidth, so think about it..

network sends out 1080i signal, bell takes it and scales is to 720p to send to your home. then either your box($300 piece of hardware) scales it back to 1080i or your TV (probably more expensive than the box, with better video processing) does...

one way or the other, the signal is being scaled 3 times before it hits your tv.

then think about something like a sunday afternoon NFL game that originates on fox. fox broadcasts in 720p, then CTV takes that 720p signal and scales it to 1080i while they add their logo to the corner of the screen and their commercials. bell then takes their 1080i feed and scales it to 720p to send to your home, where its then scaled BACK to 1080i..

bell put a dish in my condo about 2 years ago. they offered me an AMAZING package for an amazing price. i signed up and cancelled within 2 days. the picture was just *so* compared to rogers it wasnt worth the money i was saving.

i have a top shelf tv that i spent a good chunk of change on...i refuse to skimp out on the signal to save a few bucks. rogers is far from a great HD picture, but its like...eons, lightyears galaxies ahead of bell

Bell is rolling out IPTV soon and it will destory anything Rogers has.

I'd wait for that.

Got a good rooftop UHF antenna then for your ATSC tuner? If not, you should... you'd be picking up 100% uncompressed and full 5.1 audio from Montreal, Plattsburgh and Burlington, without all the Canadian bastardizations of logos and commercials.

Yeah, this is why they told me it would self adjust after some time but it just never did...
