Things You'll Need:

Laptop computer
Digital DJ software
Complete speaker system (optional)

1 Purchase a laptop with a quality sound card. For computers that don't have a quality sound card, you can upgrade to a better one or you can buy a pluggable sound card to use when needed.

2 Install digital DJ software. You can download software free of charge from the Internet, or purchase professional digital DJ software from a licensed vendor. Research different software programs to determine which one offers the features you most use on your job as a DJ.

3 Import your music into your DJ software. Organize your music from different genres into the software's "turntables," or categories, such as rap, alternative, rock, country, R&B and classical.

4 Set up your DJ equipment as if you were at a gig. Move songs into your playlists and practice switching between them mid-song. Also separate the instrumental and vocal aspects of a song. Learn your DJ software in and out before your first on-the-job performance.

5 Consider buying a complete speaker system. While the built-in speakers of your laptop work well during most DJ gigs, a speaker system will produce better sounds for your audience. Check to see that your complete speaker system contains a subwoofer, which amplifies the deep bass in music.

Apparently you don't even need a pair of headphones.

All you really need is some good DJ software, like EZ-DJ Plus
