Teh moar megapixelz = better quality, duh!

Ok ok, I meant a better camera, cause the camera on the 3GS is not very good (missing flash etc).

Tell me this; have you ever had a real need to take pictures beyond 6mp?

Well, no. Haven't taken any good photos. And if you only watch pictures on your computer, even 2mpix (1600x1200) is big enough.

is that iphone quality on the right? I've been looking at DSLR cameras lately but I'm worried they will be hard to travel with so I've been considering an iphone instead. that way I can take pictures, avoid being aware my surroundings and make barely audible phone calls with the same device.

They can always add more s willing to take time off whatever these stinky peasants call 'work' and sleep on concrete for 3 days to get one.

No, (or at least probably not) its just a random comparison I found via google.

All phones suck at taking pictures, don't even bother with any of them even the best Nokia if youre going to use it as your primary source for photography.

If you dont want the bulk of a dSLR but want something that takes photos that are acceptable in comparison to dSRL, theres really only one line of cameras that will give you those results;

Canon S series; S90, S95 and S100. The S100 being the best one of course. Take a look at some of these sample photos;

The real bonus with that camera is that you get some serious manual control out of a point and shoot, as well as 1080p movie recording with optical zoom (most dont have that ability). Theres a sample movie there too, the quality is ing insane. It's my next point and shoot and will probably last me 5 years minimum (my Canon SD750 is 4 years old and looks only a year old and functions without any problems other than my dislike for the relatively poor image quality).

Canon S series are pretty good P&S cams, but if I was trying to get something close to a DSLR (without actually buying one, and hefting it around), I'd be going for G1X at the moment.

That said, I haven't used a P&S cam in ages. Spoiled, maybe.

The next phone I own needs to have:

Telepresence display
Telepresence user interface

That'd actually be good enough.

ever traveled with a DSLR? how much of an ass pain/liability is it? I imagine casual shots like in a restaurant or on the beach would be the most inconvenient and conspicuous thing ever.

It can definitely be a pain in the ass to travel with, especially since I have a couple of big-ish telephoto lenses for birdwatching, though I tend to not just wander around with them all the time since they really do stand out, lol. General walking around stuff, with just a camera and a normal lens isn't too bad though. They just go in a shoulder camera bag.

That said though, I would likely think twice about it if I was travelling to a country where I might get jumped for my .

You don't need to tell me how much of a pain in the ass it is. A couple years ago I went to Greece for a three week vacation. I had a Canon 50D with all of my lenses in my backpack; 28-70mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8, 70-200mm f/4L. I went to Santorini for 3 days to scope the area and take some photographs. I spent 8+ hours every day walking around the area with my gear but the real *bitch* was a Manfrotto Tripod I had.

If you guys think that wasnt bad enough, I also went down to the old port, 580 steps;

Then again another 580 steps BACK UP.

I bet you guys are thinking.. 'youre ing crazy AND stupid'
If I had a choice, would I do it all over again? Hell yeah, you don't get shots like this with a Point & Shoot;
