1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs

So I decided that I'm going to make this. However, this recipe does not include cocoa powder which I do intend to use. Do you think adding a couple of tablespoons would screw the cake up or should it still bake nicely? |

Yea, which is why I was surprised at your reaction. Anyway, I don't know why they do that, but , the stuff's so expensive these days that they might as well package it using the cheapest available method. Also, while you are the largest volume producer in the U.S., we are the largest volume producers in the world, so I guess it wouldn't make much sense to sell everything in a fancy glass bottle. Maple syrup is for the common folk too:p |

| Hey really not trying to steal your maple crown, just sayin :) I'm just used to the brown plastic bottles. Fancy glass is for tourists. |

Substitute flour for cocoa powder. In a normal cake, I'd use 8oz flour, but with the chocolate one I use 7oz flour and 1oz of sieved cocoa powder. In the recipe you've seen, I'd go for maybe 2 cups flour 1/2 cup cocoa, or 2 1/4 cups flour, 1/4 cocoa, so still using the 2.5 cup total :) Hope it helps. |
