I have a cold.

It's kind of a medium nasty head-cold. Wouldn't let me sleep, at all, last night. It's that stuffed up, achy nasal cavity with a productive cough, and a mild head-ache kind of cold. Definitely not the worst cold I've ever had but it's only beginning. Still...

I tend to get stupid when I have a cold. I mean, the sort of stupid which staggers the speech of reply, searching for some assembly of words which would have efficacy upon the utterly dimwitted listener, and drops the jaws of whoever happens to find themselves in a conversation. And I become exceedingly gullible. If you have a cure - some nostrum you would proscribe - put it here and I'll try it.

Hot coals to scare the demons out of my throat? Great idea!

Try to inundate yourself with lots of non-caffeinated tea.

Also, Barbra Streisand.

On the rare occasions I get ill (it's coming up to two years now since I needed to do this) I tend to quaff two litres of Tropicana and then sleep for twelve hours. Cures everything.

For a very, very sore throat, I'll have a drink consisting of 1 part white vinegar and one part honey. It has a cloying flavor but, while still quite short of opiates, really puts a dent in the pain.

Right now, I'm doing the canned chicken soup deal. It doesn't seem to matter which brand but that helps for a little while. Tylenol and psuedo-epinephrine, here, shortly.

Tropicana is ing awesome for colds. I might have to pick up some of that, later on. I had a cold, a few thanks-givings ago, which totally wiped me out and - yes - sleep and Tropicana actually did it justice. It didn't last more than a day.

This cold is just a nuisance, right now. If I had to work, tonight, I wouldn't even call in sick for it. Functionally, it's akin to the most mild hang-over I've ever had.

All you can do is treat the symptoms. Drink lots of fluids, take ibuprofen and cough medicine (antitussive if you want to stop the cough, expectorant if you want to clear secretions), and get plenty of rest. Chicken soup is great - it's a fluid, has tons of sodium in it, and is generally warm and comforting.

Oh, and tea with lemon and honey!

I recommend:
* Snorting dust from your vacuum.
* Eat a nice big plate of dog hair.
* Share drinks with strangers.
* Sleep without a blanket or clothes. Outside.
* Never blow your nose. It will make your eyes explode.

#1's not a problem. It's a Dyson, and 2 & 3 just got knocked out by drinking from the dog's bowl, out in front of our house - lots of hair - and I probably should have washed it.

best thing for me when I have a cold is to drink massive amounts of fluids and get a good 8-10 hours of sleep a night. if you need to feel better fast, try mucinex.

- echinacea (try the pills because the liquid stuff tastes like your tongue is dying)
- always have socks on
- sleep sleep sleep
- if you can't sleep ---> DRUG YOURSELF. NyQuil is your best friend if you can dedicate 8-9 hours in bed
- DO NOT swallow your boogers. Always have tissues so that you can expel the in your nose/throat. , when I hear people horking back their snot, I want to punch them in the face.
