If passed, the proposed “harmonized bylaw” will greatly limit the manner in which bars, nightclubs and patios can be operated. Along with what some journalists and bloggers are now calling “the war on fun” which is being carried out by certain City Councillors, the implementation of this bylawsrisks our city being turned into a boring, glorified suburb. This recent negative view by City Council towards bars and nightclubs unfairly hurts businesses, kills jobs, stifles culture growth, disenfranchises young voters, and makes Toronto a less attractive place to visit and live. I would like to know how the mayoral candidates’ view this trend towards a quiet, sleepy Toronto, and if they plan on doing anything about it.
