dude i didn't watch the video but i had a real-life experience with someone with tourette's the other day. it was ed up.

basically it was a guy waiting by the bus stop and as i approached the stop to wait for my own bus, he attempted to ask me "is this where the #30 bus stops?" but since he had tourette's, he kept scratching his head, going "is thi- is thi- is thi- is thi- ! is thi- is thi- is- is- !!" over and over again.

so i stood there and, i mean, what do you do in that situation? do you help him out? do you let him figure it out so as not to embarass him? thing his he also had a nervous spit in between every attempt as well, so he'd go "is thi- *spit*", like, spitting on the ground every second. so after about five minutes of getting nowhere with the guy, i just said, "yeah, this is where the #30 and #62 bus stop" and the moment i said that, he, in a rush of words said, "oh it is where the #30 stops? okay thank you" and walked away from me. so weird, and i felt pretty bad for the guy.

there's probably very little more frustrating than trying to express yourself but being physically unable to.

WOW!!!!:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :stongue:

You know...if he sings this song maybe he tourettes will cancel out with the song's lyrics if only temporarily. (scroll to 0:13....lol)

That's so ridiculously fake it makes me want to punch the guy in the face repeatedly. What makes it even more unfunny is it's not even an original idea.

yeah, i mean after seeing a guy who REALLY had tourette's, it makes me wonder how many of the people that you see on youtube, docs, etc actually have it. what you see depicted as tourette's in the movies is nothing at all like real life, from my limited experience.

Gotta be honest and say that I beleive the vid is genuine.

I know someone with this affliction, or rather the brother of a friend. He does exactly the same thing in so far as he can time his ticks to coincide with a rhythm. It makes you think it's an act, but apparently the ticks have to come out somehow, and as long as you let them out before they force thier way out, ie you time the ticks to be ejected between lines of a song.

It's related to stammering, which is why joining a choir is often a very good way to get over a stammer.

Singing without stammering

A curiosity surrounding stammering is how someone who stammers can sing so perfectly. The answer is that when someone sings they take in deep breaths, thus supporting their voice. They also open their mouths wide, and take time to sing the words--the basis of the treatment that I receive. But more than that, performing means taking on a role. A person who is recovering from a stammer is also playing a part. They are performing the role of someone who speaks fluently.

Likewise...

I went to the local club I frequent last weekend and there was a (reasonably attractive) girl there with tourette's. Didn't hear her cuss, didn't seem to be one of her tics. But, every few seconds she would just scream out. "AAAOOUUUHHHH." That and some loud coughing noise. But, I mean, these were like... top of her lungs, loud as she possibly could have done it screams.

Everybody seemed pretty cool about it, she was just part of the group. Makes you think about how difficult it must be to really decide where you can and can't go just because you might disturb people.

A friend of a friend (whom I haven't met) we refer to as "barking stripper"... I think you can put the rest of the story together.
