Sound Engineering Schools in Toronto/GTA?
View this Thread in Original format

I was wondering if any of you know of any good/reputable schools for Sound Engineering here in the GTA. I always see this ad on the subway for Trebas but I know nothing about it. I've been looking around myself but wouldn't mind opinions from people who have actually gone to these schools or know of people who have.

Thanks.

This is posted every 2 or 3 months.

Do a search for Trebas and the threads should pop up.

Good luck! Have fun.

I've attempted to use the search function on these forums but it's not working for me, hence why I've posted a new thread.

I've heard good things about Trebas, but what are you looking to learn extactly? Are you looking to get into EDM music production? I think those courses are more geared towards working in a studio, rather than just sound design or production. So for the hefty cost and length of course, there are better routes if you want to learn production.

There is a pretty good sound design course from Point Blank Online. They have a great way of providing online courses so you should check them out.

I'm looking to get into Audio Engineering in general, EDM production is just a hobby. You said hefty price, what would I be looking at per semester/year?

DON'T GO TO TREBAS!!

Lots of horrible stories from there, courses being canceled half way through cause there's not enough students, etc. They USED to be very good.

The top ones in GTA are Harris Institute and Metalworks, I'm actually in Harris right now and I can't imagine going anywhere else. Metalworks has a lot more fancy equipment and stuff, but it's not likely you'll be using them early on in your career.

Here's a review by a teacher who taught at all the Sound Engineering schools in Ontario wrote. His review about Harris is pretty accurate. Let me know if you have any questions.

I can't remember which one is on the corner of Richmond and Sherbourne, but Andrew (NuEra) went there. Hopefully he'll pop into this thread.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. I'll definitely look into what you've mentioned so far and hopefully some others will chime in as well.

Yeah that's Harris Institute, I went there cause Andrew told me it was good. :D and I'm grateful to him for that.

NuEra should be able to list some for you, for sure.

Now say I go and finish the program, anybody know what the demand is like for audio engineers is out there? How easy would it be to find a job? I have a friend who freelances and it's really on and off for him although he does make some good cash.

I hope you put more time into your studies than you have put into researching where to go.
