All producers fall somewhere into this spectrum and fans of trance all like parts of the spectrum. I have only really listened to the samples on the album but it does sound a little different to other trance out there. Compared to ASOT which most of it sounds the same and Discover which most of that sounds the same as well. Its nothing ground breaking but it doesnt have to be. Here is a guy who has honed his sound for many years, maybe instead of looking at the established artists to move the scene forward it should be the fresh blood moving the scene forward. Alot of the established artists have worked hard to get to the top and done so much for the scene, so others can copy them. Why shouldnt they cash in, also i think they genuienly like the music they are producing and are not deliberately cashing in anyway.

Just my 2c

It's not a bad thing, they should do what they want to musically. They are driven in their careers so good for them and I admire and respect them. BUT what I don't like is watching them control the scene via their greedy agents.

They dont control the market though, its more thats what the majority of people want, easy accessable trance, its hardly their fault.

Majority don't know or care what they want, they just get what's available. And I'm not just talking about trance.

Say a club has a monthly event. They want to book Armin from David Lewis. They will be forced to book other DJ's from that agency in order to reach Armin. Do this with a couple of big agencies and that pretty much dictates that clubs whole years line up. Look for yourself at the pattern.

Notice how Gareth suddenly rose to fame once signing up with David Lewis a couple of years ago. Thats how David Lewis and other agencies work. They sign a new name, then force clubs festivals to book them in order to reach the 'big guy'. Same story with the media with front page interviews. The manager/agent will say yes you can interview Armin, but you need to do a double page spread on Gareth Emery first.

I myself Work for the BBC and have seen this system for many years with pop stars. This same method is now being used in the DJ World.

unfortunately, it sounds brutal, but that is the true, i've experienced it aswell as a edm journalist in my country...

it's really sad that nowadays the first step to be an 'active musician/producer/dj' is to find greedy agent who will make a shallow, 'spamful', one-dimensional, consumer's product from producer and his talent (of course there are some small exceptions, hopefully!) - otherwise such person will stay on having fans and ppl who follow his music, but without bookings and interest of some larger media, there will be no opportunity to hear him live

time to go back for parties in abandoned warehouse, factory etc. ;)

It's good to see another industry person here that knows exactly what's going on.

Don't get me started on how the DJ magazine Top 100 chart is manipulated by these agents and DJ's. Again proof is by making a note of each agent by the side of the poll results. You'll notice an uncanny pattern of certain DJ agencies having their roster in it.
Don't get fooled by thinking it's a public vote. 350,000 people voting in last years poll wasn't enough to cover one major city, never mind the World.
It's the most corrupt thing to happen to the dance music industry.

that was really insightful. i never knew that kind of stuff went on - but, thinking about it...it's pretty obvious, and all makes sense.

So I went to see Emery supported by Orkidea tonight. ing sucked. Orkidea was okay, although he was playing very obvious big-room tunes as befitted the occasion. He played the Moguai track everyone was ting on in this thread and closed on a click-prog remix of Age Of Love. Emery came on to a blaze of lights and smoke and started hammering out anthem after anthem, breakdown after breakdown. I lasted for about 23 minutes and then left. The venue was crammed with skinny gel-haired funkless white-boys fist-pumping to the beats, jesus posing to the breakdowns and chanting the one-finger keyboard riffs in unison.

The original plan had been to see Orkidea and then go into the second room, where a lot of lesser-known jocks were playing. I assumed that because the second room was much smaller and the DJs were unknowns that they'd keep things restrained and credible for a bit. No chance. After fleeing from Emery's lasers I went in there and found they were banging out exactly the same style of stupid cheesy trance bollocks. This is at 12.30am remember. What's the ing point of having another room if it's just playing the same as the main arena to a smaller crowd in smaller confines?

I've been to two trance nights now and found both of them utterly awful and populated by obnoxious wankers. That's it for the genre - I'm not going to another trance night again. The genre can off. I might brave one of the local psy-trance nights to see if there's a modicum of taste but I'm through with wasting my money on music, organisation and ty, ty punters. It makes me ing ashmed that I play/listen to music even vaguely resembling this tepid e. Ugh.

It sounds like some nice variety for an artist album. Any reviews from anyone?

You are asking for a Gareth Emery review on TA?
