the sad part is that it almost sounds like a sound library. And if it is the score i'm thinking off, the actual orchestration was rather simple. Just large tutti sections. I would take out the reference as it isn't that cryptic. |
Don't ing do it - I mean it - I'm really not joking.
But you're right, in terms of Orchestration it's nothing groundbreaking but in terms of sound design and as a score (if you can bend that meaning) it is quite an achievement, at least by todays standards.
A lot of it was actually sampled - but in a different way. Many instruments were sampled (in their entirety, every note, played at every velocity, in every way) then used as giant sample libraries, and mixed with a huge amount real orchestra, studio overdubs and some really outside of the box fx.
You have no idea (well you probably do) of the amount of ostinato layers on nearly every cue.
It was at least inventive with some interesting things and a lot of things were tried that as far as I know had not been done before. |

Jesus. That is actually pretty crazy. I bet there is a hit out on him from Tom Cruise and Travolta. Vin Diesel tried to pick me up at an after hour club. Or he was on some really good E pills but he was definitely shooting gay beams my way. |

I know, and it looks like it's actually for real as Travolta won't comment on it and his lawyers have been unable to get it taken down.
It's literally less than 10 mins from me! :nervous: |

| I've been by it a few times. Always tried to see if I would see mr cruise in a car close by wearing like really big glasses and a hat. Its too bad people have to lie about that sort of thing. |

tbh, there were several dozen tracks, even whole groups tracks of 30+ combined tracks that really we acting as slight background ambiance when mixed with the more prominnant elements.
You just really can't mix that many tracks and have everything out there, so it became more about the balance of atmosphere and subtlety.
And frankly, yes, it sounded ing great, but that's down to so many things: The seriously heavyweight composer(s), the fact that the orchestra was one of the greatest orchestras in the world, recorded at the greatest studio in the world by the best recording engineer alive.
Combined that with a full the team of engineers working around the clock at the mix stage and the 1st engineer we were assisting to mix it, is arguably one of the top 3 guys in the world, at one of the best mix facilities on the planet with literally no limit on man power or equipment, or expense. |
Wow... well it certainly sounds BIG if nothing else. Crazy stuff really to think that there were so many channels.
Imagine the things a dance music producer could do with just 3-6 of those channels too. Most producers can build an awesome dance track out of 2-3 string lines. |
