Yea - I really like a track you put on a thread recently - a youtube one showing a guy with pointed hair - I think you described as 'one long build' - love the way the guy appears to have let his imagination run wild and experimental.

Scot Project I think the picture was of the guy who did the original. He is a producer's producer. It is actually strange how he isn't bigger than he is. But he has been extremely innovative and solid since 2000. He pretty much invented hard trance in late nineties, was one of the first to combine trance , house and electro elements. He really is one of the most influential producers around. The kind of producer that will never use a loop and makes everything himself.
all done in the last year. Just a taste of what he has done in the last year. All his tracks are always original yet still somehow hold on to his unique style.
Choooon! I used to play alot of tech trance and harder stuff back in like 2003-2005. Had me raving in my chair for a second...
@Richard - stereo spread and compression for the upfront leads with of course some EQ - my 2 cents
-FSP-
Every other lead I make is layered. Synths all have their own personalities and quirks, so if one is "ooomphy" for lack of better words, then I'll look for a synth that is "airy" to bring it out.
Just tossing ideas out at you. Like MFBrad said, just keep working hard and it'll come.

Yeh but why do you always mention him specifically? Do you have a crush =]? I've gone through a lot of his tracks and I definitely hear "bigger" sounds in general in other tracks. His kicks sound tiny and his bass are "ok" but nothing spectacular. I also notice he doesn't have that many fans. Not like it matters but it definitely matters more than just being the "first".

Try use more warmers Psp Vintage warmer is very nice, Eq is also a must not just taking a high pass or low pass on the sound but actually taking out conflicting frequencies.

Richard old fruit. You're over thinking and over mixing.
His WIP has very little in it, but what's there all gels together, and he ain't compressed the crap out of it either.
Admittedly it's good.

1. If you're a talented producer and know your fx equipment inside out. Great use of distortions/amps/warmers, reverb, chorus, eq and whatnot can make a huge improvement to the sound.
2. If you however are not 100% comfortable with these and don't nessasery know what you're doing, using a lot of these effects can turn your sounds/mixing into worse.
So try doing different takes of your track, one with hardly no post production using very little reverbs eqing and such, and one with lots of post production. To see how everything affects on the overall sound. Maybe you're using a bad reverb plugin, or using too much bassy tails in it. Maybe your eq work is too much boosting and too little cutting. Maybe your stereo image is too mono/centered, or maybe it's too wide.

Madfb - I get where your'e comming from on Scot Downey - listening to global code there is an awful lot of imagination gone in and he constantly changes whats happening through the track.
Rob - I like his kicks - I now prefer more minimal clicky kicks now as they for me let a track breath - a big middy classic trance kick I find sucks away too much sound. Just taste of course.
Wazza will try that PSP thing I think - I keep seeing people singing it's praises.
Tehlord - yeah I'm maybe overthinking but I simply don't have a mindset that tells me if I'm on the right track yet so just really value input.
Kevin - stereo spreaders - I find I'm like 'wow this is nice' for about 1 minute and then the effect seems to wear off in my brain but I am going to concentrate on making my own stereo spreads - with slight delay on playback in one ear.
FSP - EQ any clashing freq you say - do you mean every single one!
Do me a favour - tell me about the bass here - (no lead or proper break yet.
What i mean is I take 2 different synths let's pretend that I use synth1 for the airy sound and maybe a k-station for the lower oomph and both have the same filter settings for the filter's ADSR. The OSC settings and octaves for them are up to you, it really depends on what sound you're looking for.
BTW I never tried the K-station, i'm just throwing out random synths.

Each step of quality will take longer and longer the better you get.
In the end you just have to keep at it, and dont listen too much to your favorite music.
