Learning a new instrument.

I decided to act on a life long ambition and learn the electric guitar.

I bought a cheap Vintage V6 and started watching videos, playing, making noise.

It's most creative, even at my e level.

I recommend it to anybody stuck in a rut or looking for new inspiration.

Plus, with 3 chords and Guitar Rig I can sound like a Pro :D

Double plus, soon I won't have to wait for pesky guitarists to do parts for me!

Do it!!

i tried learning el-guitar myself last winter. it went to hell, i just cant get it, its not logical to me. if i should learn anything it would have to be piano or drums. but i dont see the point when i can do it all in my daw lol. composition is much more fun.

i have an acoustic guitar, that i keep telling myself i am going to give time out to, and dedicate to learning ,but i been procrastinating for years now. it might just be the thing i need right now though, to add some spice in my life, but its just so hard to get in gear mode, to get into a chair with a proper posture with your guitar in your hand, slouching down staring at a computer screen has made me so lazy.

Things that are worth doing often require a little bit of effort ;)

I'm wit Nortek, I'm guitar dyslexic - it makes no sense at all to the way my brain is wired.

There are some things each of us just cannot do. I see perfectly able people comming into to try Kravmaga (Israeli hand to hand combat) but never ever learn to throw a punch properly! Similarly some people cannot cook no matter how much training (watch masterchef nonight honestly - amazing correalations with music production - lots of chefs announce at the start they will be great but no matter what they never get it and never will - it's those who are uber dedicated and attention fanatics that win the show - so it fascinates me).

Glad your'e enjoying it though.

i would say music unlike a lot of things requires a certain part of the brain to develop at a young age when your brain is quite plastic. If you haven't had a decent musical education by the time you are 10, it is going to be incredibly hard to learn when you are older. Your brain just doesn't have the same layout as someone that does play a musical instrument. It is actually quite remarkable how different a musician's brain is compared to any other field of study. You can definitely see the differences during an autopsy.

Not that I believe you can't learn. It will just be a lot harder. It took me about 13 years with violin , 9 years with piano to play at a professional level, about 6 years with drums, about 4 years with guitar. After a while, the only thing that changes are the mechanics of the instrument with almost everything else staying the same. I did however put in the man hours. Averaged over my entire lifespan from age 3 when I started violin to about the age of 21 when I was playing everything at a professional level, I had spent on average counting days I didn't practice about 5 hours a day every day for about 18 years. There were periods were I was practicing 8 hours every day but some periods were I was only doing 2. So on average probably about 5 hours. That is about 32 000 hours. Definitely something you have to do when you are younger.

strict parents ay?

lol yup. I think that is why I am such a dink now. Having never been able to argue has made me quite opinionated in my later years. They are just old school Europeans that moved here with their suitcases and found that everyone here had it easy and expected all the siblings to work harder than everyone else. I will say that I developed a great work ethic but it also made me have quite a contempt for authority. Our household was ran like a military installation with like finger nail inspections, bedroom inspections. I am however quite disciplined so it isn't always such a bad thing. And I had my rebel teen years to balance out the formative early years.

Brad - ever since I first read you on here I thought you were a good Jewish lad - was I right?

no. Irish and Spanish. Not that there is that much wrong with being jewish. I mean i'd rather be jewish than mexican. But that is like choosing between RC cola and PC cola.

Sweet man, rock on.

Was thinking about picking up the electric bass myself, with roughly 13 years of Cello playing / lessons under my belt, transitioning to something in the same clef that's pizz'd in a similar manner shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Maybe we can all get together and start a TA Funky-Electro-Rock band or something. I'll take Bass if tehlord takes lead. Who's on drums?
