Overdoing it

perhaps others don't feel this way but often, I feel like I've just explored music as much as I want and often I feel like just jumping ship and starting something new. I've always wanted to write. I make a living with music but the mystery is gone. There is nothing you could show me that would excite me. I suppose that is the danger in really learning music.
I am the type of person to master something then change completely what I do. That is how I changed from music styles from rock to EDM to classical to jazz learning everything there is.
Write now, I want to actually write novels or direct movies. I have some insane ideas in my head and I find so many novels , movies are just so damn boring.
I suppose that is the downside of doing music as a profession. It becomes a job. I will always love music but I often wonder if that is what I was really meant to do. I mean i'm ing good at it but I don't see what I couldn't be great at something else.
To put things in perspective, I've been doing music since I was 3 till now which is 29. maybe i just need to hear some new music that blows me away but honestly, that doesn't happen anymore. I wish it did but it doesn't. What does blow me away are things I don't understand like writing, or painting, or stuff like that. |

| If you are really good at something, chances are you would be just as good at something else.. but apparently destiny chose music for you. |

| i think it is comfort and safety and being already good at something feels good. But I love that feeling of being the underdog. That feeling of having potential but sucking. |

That feeling of having potential but sucking. | Im one of those guys who always really sucks at something the first times i do it, then i will slowly become good at it, then i will strive to become better than the rest at it, looking at all aspects and potential improvement.
I have ADD and this is one of the positive effects of having such a diagnosis, when you really like something you can dig very far into it.
The opposite effect is of course not being interested or good at stuff that is boring and uninteresting.
If you are looking for some piece of music that might blow you away, check out Hybrid with the track Disappear Here, in full quality.. not youtube. |

I think as long as there was always someone who I could teach I could be happy. I love explaining the mechanics and intricacies of sound design and even just basic filters and effects to people - regardless of if they care or know what I'm talking about.
On the other hand, I do understand what you mean. It's part of human nature to always be striving for something higher, and if you no longer have something more to achieve, then we rapidly lose interest. Though I don't think I could ever get bored with music, as it's much more integral to my personality as a whole.
Then again, I'm not as jaded as everyone on here. :P |

You'd be amazed at how similar your story is to mine. |

Why? There's bound to be people in a similar situation here.
If you really want to go do something, then go do it. There's no reason to give up on music though, unless you truly despise it.
Just because you're good at something doesn't mean you have to do it.
I'm good at maths but you sure as hell wouldn't see me working as an accountant or anything related because it bored the out of me.
It can't possibly hurt that much to try other things, especially in this day in age. It's not like you live in a tiny nation where you're locked into a career with no other choices. |

maybe writing a novel, or doing another art form that will take your mind off of music for awhile, wouldnt be such a bad thing, it might actually kinda seem fresh again, if you take a long period off of it and just go with the flow, and do something else.
i would hate to ever get to that point..
but who knows you might be a great writer, and not even know it..
if you have that feeling inside of you, then its going to come out. |

you sound like you HAVE to be the best.
so im guessing your not the best at music. (Unless secretly your a profesh whos not admitting it)
so why dont you strive to be the actual best
at whatever musical thing you personally think your ripping at.
or has the ship already left?
:p |
