It should be a great time tomorrow. I can't wait to see Architects of Sound. John Day & Eddie Clay are great. I haven't seen Eddie since Miami 2009 WMC. If you haven't bought your tickets. Do it now!

What About Us and Blur - Song 2 really did a number on the crowd.

I personally really enjoyed Gabriel & Dresden opening with Robert Babicz - Dark Flower ( Fever Mix) with what I believe was a Sarah Mclachlan Acapella?

I just really enjoy Dark Flower, one of my favorites. :)

Actually, it was really good. It was a bit shocking at first, but once you paid attention, ATB has some vocal chops and skills. It was one of the highlights of the night. I liked how he interacted with the crowd on the mic.

Yes, the Blurr track was bad ass too.

I also liked what seemed to be an electro house remix of "Tracking Treasure Down" by G & D.

The production was amazing... Stellar.

Would have been nice if there was a dubstep or breaks area, but oh well. AOS, Basic, & STORM threw it down in the Champagne room.

1. OK, I can see some people liking that. A taste thing I suppose.
2. ATB should never get on the mic. Or sing over vocals like he's notorious for. He just shouldn't. It's as bad a Tiesto trying to be an MC with his new "style." Again, something the newbies to trance just don't get because they just don't know. Aanyone who has been around trance for awhile...well, they (we) all just hate it. Unless they just intend to go completely loaded and know he's going to please CHIZEEZE and just want to roll balls to it. Seriously. To this day I don't know of any single argument from anyone that can convince anyone he's actually good as a DJ.
3. Maybe ATB can make has skills in cutting stuff up, but he still can't mix. Unless he learned how to since Nocturnal, where he was still as bad as he ever was. Actually, I think he's gotten worse. He was actually decent when he first started touring over here.

yeah, i'm not a fan of ATB, lol. Lots of people don't like him as a person. I don't know him that way, as I don't judge people from what other people say (cause I usually just get along with everyone). I just think he sucks purely as DJ. Not just as a trance DJ. But as a DJ, period. Can't mix. Can't program. Shouldn't talk on the mic. Sure he'll have a good set here and there, but history with his sets show that's more by chance than skill. Maybe it was one of those nights last night. I cannot judge.

That said, I don't blame Giant for booking him. He sells tickets to the uneducated people out there, which is what events like this attract. Crowd might like trance in the end, they just have tunnel vision to the cheese DJs they like and don't bother expanding it. I'd book him if I had the chance for that reason. Sometimes it's about business. As it should be. :p

Anyhow, I don't want to hijack this thread from its intention so won't comment on him anymore in here...so please don't reply with something that's gonna make me reply more about him, heh.

A DJ who is afraid to talk on the mic is a chicken . Any DJ that will actually sing over his tracks has some serious balls.

ATB's mixing wasn't perfect but it wasn't trainwreck style ala early Adam Rush or Steve Castro on vinyl. (Both who mix much better now with time and with the invention of digital/CD mixing.)

I did think it was a little odd that ATB played two different remixes of "9pm Til I Come" in the same set, but I wouldn't consider him a bad DJ just on that merit alone (I used to do that when I was younger, not 20 minutes apart like ATB, but I don't prefer it stylistically anymore).

I liked it when he dropped Armand's "The Funk Phenomena." It was a nice break from the trance monotony.

Saying ATB should never get on the mic is like saying you shouldn't post on the Tranceaddict.com messageboard because your posts come off like you are the "Trance God" who speaks for all trance fans. It just doesn't make any sense. A DJ who can interact with the crowd and have fun while he is DJing is a breath of fresh air from all the "newbie" DJs who think it's their job to just play records blank face and have no crowd interaction so DaveT can have a "good time" without anyone interrupting his precious ears. I was genuinely happy for ATB as he actually looked like he was having a fantastic time up there and thinking it must be great for a German to come to America and find a huge fan base with his music. When you are at the top of your game there will always be people wanting to put you down and attack you. It's the psychology of American society; America loves to see a hero fall from grace. It's whether you choose to believe in the hype or not that makes all the difference.

I've been listening to trance for 16 + years. It still sucks just as much as it did back then in my early years, I just find it more tolerable now than it used to be. ;)

***All in good fun, Dave, I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with everything you have to say, and that's alright. Happy New Year!!!***
Contrasts
I go to see a dj for his djing, not his vocals and talking over sets. If I wanted that I'd be an electro fan.

ATB is the perfect DJ for the general masses...he delivers a fun set but that's about it.

Would I go to an event just to see him? No way, but if he was scheduled in between 2 DJ's I would see him.

Oh almighty one, why does the oh almight one reply with a reply that forces me to reply when I asked for no reply to be made that basically forces thy to reply.

My issue with ATB is that he sucks on the mic. I don't mind DJs who are good on the mic when they do it at the right time. ATB isn't one of those DJs. Go back and look at what just about everyone said about ATB at Nocturnal. You think it's just me? Everyone ripped on him singing over songs...maybe it's because he can't sing and people want to hear the proper vocals. If he had a good voice, I'd probably be fine with it. He doesn't. Oh, and him playing 9pm Till I come at Nocturnal was also ripped over and over again. So it's not just me. And I don't care if a DJ is having a good time interacting with the crowd when it's killing the potential of his set. I go to listen to the music and watch the DJ perform (if you want to call it performing :p) and he or she does not need to talk to interact with the crowd. Not necessarily talk. And a crowd is always going to be responsive over a DJ talking at the event.

And you are right, it is real balls. But that doesn't make it a good idea.

A hero has to be a hero to fall from grace. I've never looked down on ATB as a DJ until I heard him as a DJ. I liked him at first. He's just gotten bad since while my love for good trance hasn't dwindled a bit.. I have never used any of his past cheese trance from the 90s against him. Or I'd be anti-Darude too...yet, I'm probably one of his biggest fans because he is a great DJ who plays great tracks (and a lot of tracks you don't see other major DJs play too often if at all) and not cheese...he interacts with the crowd, too. Often with signs he puts writing on (usually premade), but he has asked for a mic before so he could talk with the crowd and he did just fine, because it was at the right time and he didn't suck being on it...it's a shame, because people associate him with Sandstorm and Feel the Beat so much they think he's instant cheeseballs. But he's def one of the better trance DJs out there. Def in my top 10, maybe top 5...depends what mood I'm in. :)

I'm not a god, BTW. Strong observationist with a strong opinion, yes. God, no. I'm kinda offended, hehe. Not in a bad way. Otherwise, I'd be able to fill int he 20 requests I get every time I'm at an event at Ruby/Spundae (like from wristbands, which I never get anymore because I was too nice and kept letting random TAs and other people up and then be asked W(ho)TF are all these people they didn't know at one time, hehe. So when anyone here asks me for one, blame the other TAs who asked in the past for asking so much all on the same night and ruined it for you. hah. If I could get everyone here what they want, I'd jump right at it. I'm one who likes "the nod" [Groove reference...yeah, I'm corny])

And I hope that everyone doesn't agree with me all the time...as hard as it may be to believe, I'm one that doesn't mind to be proven wrong in the end, so as long as it benefits the scene. In my humble, often ridiculous - although not in this case - opinion, ATB doesn't. At one time I thought he would, but now I don't think he does at all because it's cheesiating (just made that up) the new trance heads out there and it's hiding the DJs with real DJing talent. But that's my opionion and I honestly hope he proves me wrong in the end. As lame as that sounds.
