This festival crushes Miami! I wouldn't step foot in Florida again.

That Dubfire set was so freakin good!!

He was on my flight back chatted with him for a bit, he was saying he was beat slept a few hours in couple days but was a trooper and wanted to play Kool beach, was great seeing Michaelangelo getting the boot fro Dubfire. I was tired of looking at that silly propeller hat anyway.

I tried asking this in a seperate thread but I think it may be better in this one.

I missed the BMP this year and I'd love to hear what tracks were popular down there.

For everyone who went the BPM festival:

Which tracks did you hear played often?

Which tracks set the crowd off?

Any memorable sets?

Cheers.

Dubfire was my high moment as well, maybe a better venue would have been better like Coco Maya beach club. Yea man he is so cool, we ran into him at the end of the security line at the airport and he was gracious enough to take a picture.
The Italian guy before him was pretty kool.

Glad you had a good time! This intrigues me and makes me want to check it out next year even more.

I had a really good week but I don't think I would go this far. Also by the same token I don't think I could say that WMC is unequivocally better then BPM.

There are positive and negative aspects working for and against both of them.

A few things I liked about more about BPM, PDC has a much nicer beach and in general the atmosphere there seemed to be alot less uptight and stringent, from both the authorities and the general populace IMO. Also it's cheaper in pretty much almost every respect compared to Miami. From accomodations, food (which I loved) & drink (in & out of clubs) and entry into clubs.

A few things that aren't as good in PDC are the clubs. They are decent and good enough, but don't generate the same wow factor that alot of the clubs in Miami do. There is nowhere near as much variety as WMC (venues & talent), but it looks like BPM is getting there with better lineups and more venue selection year after year. There was pretty much only one spot to go too during the day, that being Kool Beach. There were a few other venues that were open during the day as well but everytime I went by them they were totally dead (though they might have been better the times I did not attempt to go to them). This was not with complete "no names" playing these parties either. It did not matter who was playing at Kool Beach and who was playing somewhere else, it seemed like everyone went to Kool Beach by default and half of the time the music there was pretty lame.

Overall though it was a really good week, and there is really only one thing I wish they would improve upon and that would be the daytime portion and programming of events during the festival. I'd rather go out during the day / late afternoon but the best talent was playing at night, it would be nice if they could spread the talent around a bit more. I'm in Mexico and i'd rather do something I can't do at home (ie. party during the day with the backdrop of the Mayan Riviera). It would be nice if I could count on a quality soundtrack to go along with that.

Highlights of the week:

Dubfire, Squillace + Carlo Lio @ Kool Beach - This was a nice surprise for us, if I had known this would be going down I would have skipped out on the sauna that was Brahma the night b4 with this trio.

Flying Circus @ Coco Maya Beach Club - My favorite outdoor nightime venue and the best lineup of the week. Steve Bug laid down a nice opening set which was followed up with an extended Audiofly & Nic Fanciulli b2b session. Definitely one of the musical highlights of the week for me.

Locodice v Carola @ Blue Parrot - Locodice & Carola laid down a killer set. REALLY good night of tunes.

Rebel Rave Tour @ Alux Cave - Def the coolest venue of the week, that was such an awesome venue for a party. I only wish Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler had come on earlier as I pretty much went to this wanting to see them play the most. Being on the last night of the week I was totally gassed and I didn't have the energy to stick around for too long.

Thought I'd leave my review.

I was there the 31st till the 9th, didn't know what to expect but I thought it was an awesome event overall. I'd stay for some strictly r'n'r days if i do it again, flight home on Sunday was very rough.

Kicked everything off NYE with Hernan Cattaneo @ Blue Parrot. Impossible to get a drink, too packed to even breathe, music was a bit too chuggy/slow all night i thought for Hernan standards, but met lots of great people from all over, good night overall. Sound was great.

Did Kool Beach pretty much everyday. Music I found hit or miss, shame there wasn't more variety and better talent during the afternoons. I probably heard Fedde le Grande's remix of Missing about 6 times during the day this week. One thing i noticed too was the whole area against the wall was full of a lot of Montreal HAs (from what i was told) and roidmonkeys with attitude. One day they all freaked out and threw tables/chairs into the pool. Thankfully its not everywhere, actually its still fairly rare at the day parties, but one conversation we had with a guy telling us how Miami/WMC "is way better cause girls have even bigger and everyone has <5% body fat" pretty much solidifies my view of what Miami has become and why I'll be heading back to BPM next year. Dubfire and Cedric Gervais probably were the best free Kool Beach parties in terms of crowd/experience that i saw, however Addy played a sweet classics set on the Saturday, lots of old vinyl which was awesome (big smile when i heard Greece 2000!). Some other good Dj's too i forget.

Highlights:

Eric Morillo @ Pink Elephant - great show, typical Morillo interaction and energy, perfect amount of people in there. Bar staff were not organized at all but friendly (it was 3rd night open for this club), and the sound/lighting in there was wicked - perhaps best in Playa. Morillo played past 6am, so they pulled the plug on him at about 6:30ish halfway through a track. He was so into it and not happy! lol

Desyn Masiello @ Pink Elephant - next night went right back there for one of my favs. He started off slow, didn't seem too excited to be there since the club was half full. About an hour in, he began acknowledging the crowd, got into it, started swapping with Nich Matar (Cielo guy i think?), and after a bit of cheering and hollering by everyone, Des got into things. Des came down to the dancefloor and danced with people. Totally different attitude, got hilarious pics and vids together. Talked for a bit about coming to Vancouver again. One funny moment - he found Morillo's demands/system requirements list in the booth and gave it to my buddy. Some funny stuff in there.. Great night overall, really amazing music i thought for the last 2 hours.

Flying Circus @ Coco Maya - great club, music and crowd (Roger Sanchez was even there for a bit dancing), everything you want in a night out. Fanciulli had some spotty mixing and kinda got boring a few times given how late it was, but really I can't complain. Loved every minute of it.

Random Secret Jungle Party - Through a friend of a friend, we found out about a private party for 200 in a mayan style temple about 20min away. Secret map, passwords, special meeting locations - the works. Seemed sketchy at first, but sounded too interesting to pass up. In the end, Lee Burridge, Jamie Jones, and Audiofly played the night away to a couple hundred people in the most far out building i've ever been in. Completely blown away, fire circle on the dancefloor and everyone on the same page. Don't wanna say too much more :P

Lee Foss and others @ Mamitas day party - Music was straight up awesome. I'm hoping Mamitas grows as an alternative to Kool Beach with a different style of artists like these. Makes me wanna go back.

Lowlights:

Steve Angello @ Blue Parrot - puke! worst music at BPM, and his constant jesus poses/screaming into a mic made it all worse.

Kaskade Day Party - Kaskade didn't even show (i'm not a huge Kaskade fan), but the funny part was meeting people who were telling us how much Kaskade rocked it. Who knows who they saw lol. Someone told me Sharam played instead but not sure.

All in all, i'd say the best part of BPM is that in a lot of ways its still not too crazy packed (except Kool Beach), and its still about the music and less about the fashion show. Here's hoping next year the have a bit more variety as well as a lot of these guys played BPM 2010. Its def growing though.
