| Thank you for all replies (except goble goble).I dont think his language skills will allow him to be a consultant of any kind.He does have a few side jobs, but thats all they are.I told him 15 years ago to join the union,he didnt listen. Now he is crying that they dont want old people thats why he got fired. |

Unions are only bad for an employer.Which is not a bad problem in Toronto because employers found ways around the whole union thing.(im talking about drywall union). But in Sarnia union its a different thing altogether. We got guys show up and do nothing for a whole day and the employer can do nothing about it.
On the other side tho..Union will protect their member. So the employer cant fire a guy just because he is old and not as fast as the younger guys.Plus the pension of course. |

Not when the workforce is made up of both 'full-timers' and 'temps'. The temps suffer in more ways than I can mention (given less pay and little/no benefits coverage, assigned the most difficult jobs, granted less overtime, etc.). |

Hey, does he know anything and/or willing to learn a bit about solar technology?
There are a lot of jobs going around for skilled electricians, a crap load of startups in the last couple of years are now looking to configure and hook up solar power installations all over the place.
Just a hint. |

Maybe you should have told him to work on his English instead. But it wouldn't surprise me if he'd have been stubborn in that too.
My dad's in the same type of situation, and he gets by picking up odd-jobs and doing night cleaning for random buildings in the GTA. There really isn't a market for workers over 55 these days, it's kinda sad. |

It's actually rather easy work, the only hurdle usually is just having the electrician licence, and additionally there is a large variety of work that may suit him . But anyways it was a hint, who knows it might spark an Idea for OP.
I also recommended the industry (should have been more specific, solar photo-voltaic) because its a booming industry right now with a shortage of work, this gives every job application in the industry that much more weight.
Oh also I didn't know that poor English made you retarded. |

Yup, office job, easy, stable, free training, scripted so lack of english is not a huge hurdle, will probably get free english lessons and other skills too....
Age doesn't matter, a 18 yo voice is the same as a 66 yo voice... |
